    http://www.nba.com/dleague/news/performer_090302.html

    Marcus Williams, Austin Toros

Marcus Williams of the Austin Toros is the NBA D-League Performer of the Week for March 2, 2009. Williams joins Malik Hairston as Austin Toros players to earn the honor this season. Williams was also named Performer of the Week once during the 2007-08 season.
Williams led the Toros to a 3-0 record this week, averaging 26.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He scored 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Saturday's win over Tulsa, Austin's seventh win in their last eight games.
A 6-7 forward from Arizona, Williams is in his second season with the Toros. Last season he earned Third Team All-League honors and received GATORADE Call-Ups from the Spurs and Clippers. He currently ranks fifth in the D-League with 22.2 points per game and has led Austin to a league-best 25-9 record.

Has everybody forgotten that the Spurs drafted him? The club actually chose Williams. You should at least support the kid.

And they chose wrong, because he is no longer affiliated with them other than being on the Toros.

It was a horrible ing draft choice.

I support keeping the untalented stiff in Austin.

Austin_Toros is like the baseball fan who can't figure out why his team doesn't call up that 1st baseman who hit .265 with 35 taters in AAA, not realizing that translates into .220 and 15 HRs and 180 strikeouts in the Show.

I personally think Marcus is a reliable three point shot away from the NBA.

    It's a big hurdle though.

I'm not sure about that. He's difficult to pin down because he doesn't do one thing well enough to push him to the next level for the position he plays -- the shooting would put him over the top IMO. His passing and defense have gotten to a pretty impressive level.

    Yeah, yeah it is.

He will never develop said shot due to the poor form on his jumper.

Elson will never become a great basketball player due to him being dumber than a box of rocks.

He's clearly shown improvement this season and I think a solid three point jumper would make him worthy of a roster spot on an NBA team.

Indeed not. But tpark likes to make horrible exaggerations to get his point across. Gaining IQ points and gaining a 3pt shot could only be connected in his twisted mind.

I am so ing glad chump is on ST, if not for him I'd think MW was just far off from being in the NBA.

One question to chump though, why do you think he needs a 3pt shot? I thought the Spurs had enough bombers in TP(meh), Hill(meh), Manu(meh this season), Mason, Finley, Bowen, and Bonner. You don't think 4 solid ones is enough?

And if his D is as good as you say it is, could he be an SF on the Spurs? Seems the Spurs have a glut of wing players, Gist coming over this summer won't help, ok... just remembered Ime is gone, thank god. I guess the sg/sf rotation would be Manu/Mason/Hairston/Gist/Bowen/Finley(put vets at the end cuz Pop knows what he'll get from them), at least to start the season. Hope The Gist and Hairston can prove Fin is fine in designer suits on back-to-backs and the 3rd game in 4 nights situations.

That's good, but losing Nate Brown might be worse at this point.

As I said, I don't think Marcus does any one thing well enough to stick in the NBA at this point. He is a very good all-around D-League player, but it seems that GMs want to be able to categorize a player very simply so they can see players working in their respective team's systems.

For the Spurs' system I do think three point shooting is critical for someone like Williams because that and cutting to the basket would be his most obvious uses in an offense with Duncan and Parker. If a defender can sag off him without being made to pay for it, the system starts to suck.

Marcus is the most versatile defender on the Toros. He guards positions 1-4 depending on what's needed. That of course bodes well for his chances on the Spurs, but he will likely be more limited in his assignments since NBA players are bigger and the guards generally faster.

I can think of several players who are a reliable three point shot away from getting a legitimate chance in the NBA. Marcus just happens to be another one of them.
