Is there anybody here who can explain this? Is Somerset stuck in some time zone 50 years ago?

Student can keep hair – for now
By Guillermo Contreras - Express-News
Like a character from the Bible, 17-year-old Jesus Figueroa draws strength from his shoulder-length hair.
The honors student at Somerset High School said his hair has a spiritual purpose, and he considers his locks part of his native heritage, which he has been discovering as he matures.
But, according to a federal lawsuit he filed, his hair doesn't sit well with the Somerset Independent School District. The district bars male students from having hair that touches the shirt collar.

My homie got kicked out of our Catholic HS for refusing to cut his dreads. That's pretty crazy for a public school though. Especially since he's appealing on biblical/religious grounds.
All the more ed since apparently he has a scholarship to a private college. These ers are out to ruin his life/future because he won't cut his locks? People (I'm sure they're republicans) should get fired over this.
'You shall not shave around the sides of your head, nor shall you disfigure the edges of your beard" -Lev 19:27
Nothing new about biblical pick-n-choosers, but I always found the "Thou Shalt Not Have Long Hair" types pretty hilarious, especially when it was time to teach the Sunday School kids the story of Sampson.
