What do you want to know about the series? It was pretty much Duncan's series and maybe Manu after that. Jack wasn't much of a factor. Drob and Bowen held Kobe and Shaq in check. Horry's hand was hurt and he had an awful series, Fox was injured and ineffective.

Kobe looked like an old man by the end series due to Bruce just whupping up on him. From that point on Phil adopted the practice of picking Bruce pretty much any time Kobe has the ball and reversing the asshhupping effects of that matchup by upping the physicality level on Bruce when he has to defend Kobe. Parker wasn't that much of a factor that year but the following year Phil also began adopting the strategy of double teaming Parker...probably the only PG I've ever seen draw a double out of Phil.

If you're wondering...Manu is the key to us beating you now and I'd say he was probably the #1 offensive factor after Duncan in the Spurs winning that series...

Oh yeah...Kevin Willis made some huge momentum plays to turn the momentum late in that series as well.

But basically, that was the series of Tim Duncan's career...he and Shaq pretty much went Mano a Mano in the deciding 4th quarters of the final games of that series...and Duncan won that battle, straight up. Shaq couldn't stop him. In the previous couple of years it had begun to look like Duncan was almost intimidated by Shaq but that series pretty much put all that speculation to rest.

Yeah everyone talks about Phil's strategy shift in 2004 of packing the lane but perhaps even the better adjustment was using Shaq to set a pick on Bowen about 200 times a game ... literally. Bowen in 2003 was the first player to ever not allow Kobe to explode in isolation situations without a double-team after Kobe hit his prime.

With Bowen getting run off of so many picks in 2004, Pop actually started going with Devin Brown more because Devin's strength allowed him to get around Shaq's screens better.

I was just looking up stats, cause I was arguing with a fellow Laker brethren, so I was looking through some of the previous Laker series' vs a lot of different teams.

Kobe and Shaq played equally as bad this series. It was pretty amazing to me the Lakers even had a chance to win it.

I wont even waste my time arguing with this Kobe fan. He says that Kobe and Shaq have the equal amount of blame for losing the 2004 Finals.

That and he was the only one making his outside shots

Jackson did that in game 3 of 03 too, and LA won in a rout. I can't believe he went away from it. Shaq must have gotten tired of doing the fundamentals.

Hah, I knew someone was going to post this. He was on fire in that third quarter, and gave the Lakers a nice lead. Apart from that, dude did nothing. He even gave me the cold shoulder at the Galleria Mall like he was some hotshot or something.

That was the most bitter part of the loss. I can deal with a good player like Fisher or a HOFer like Kobe beating the Spurs, but Devean ing Breath George costing the Spurs a le is a bunch of ing bull .

My least favorite is def this one:
    http://www.basketball-reference.com/...605130DAL.html

Duncan was a beast with 35 and 12. Nitwitzki scores 27 points, even though he was 3-9 from the floor.

If not for this game, the infamous Manu foul never happens, and we have one more banner in the rafters. Nothing to do with the rivalry with the Lakers, but still the box I hate to see most.

This game made me want to start puking on the TV. It took like 5 hours to watch those 98 free throw attempts. And putting the Spurs against the Mavs in a FT shooting contest is a sure loss, especially at that point in time.
