The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) staged a unique demonstration in Rome's Piazzo del Popolo on Saturday; the group placed 1,600 panda dolls, made from paper pulp, in the square to symbolize the world's remaining wild panda population.
In the wild, giant pandas live only in the mountains of central China, where their habitat has been broken into small, isolated patches, in large part due to human development.
