Guard Jason Terry, who averaged 19.6 points, mostly off the bench, for the Dallas Mavericks, has been voted the NBA's sixth man of the year, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The newspaper reported the story Wednesday on its Web site. Terry is expected to receive the award at a news conference Friday.
Terry came off the bench in 63 of his 74 games played, averaging 33.7 minutes, 3.4 assists and a 36.6 shooting percentage from 3-point range.
The Mavericks won 50 games in the regular season, finishing as the sixth seed among Western Conference playoff teams. Dallas' first-round series against the San Antonio Spurs is tied at one game apiece
This is total bull , Jordan Farmar deserved this award.
Well deserved by Terry, as much as I despise the little turtlehead.
I hope this doesn't give him a spark. Spurs have done a good job of keeping Terry under wraps so far; the last thing he needs is some motivation to go Badass Mode on us like he normally does.
Props to Terry, he deserves it.
Mavs still bite.
Well, I can understand why Spurs-fans dislike Terry, mainly due to his punch in Finley's jewels. That was dirty, no doubt about that and I really didn't like to see that.
But just tell me why Dirk's MVP was pseudo. He earned it for carrying the team to a 67-15 record (still tied for 6th place all-time!) and the only player to shoot 50-40-90 over the entire season. That was definitely enough to award him with the MVP.
Well, you're known here as a moronic troll, so it's probably senseless to tell you that award is for the regular season and not for the playoffs. Everybody knows that except you (or you just don't want to accept the truth). Don't start again with that stupid discussion about the series against GSW, everybody knows the outcome. Moreover, I assume you're just ing against Dirk because he's playing for Dallas and thus you hate everything coming from there. Unfortunately it seems that you're also unable to respect good performances coming from a player who is not a Spur. But as I already wrote, trolls just want to troll and maybe they (you) are even to dumb to discuss on a higher level.
Newsflash, spur fan. No one outside of your fanbase likes your team either. Deal with it.
As much as I hate this punk, he deserves it, no question
this is sort of like winning a masters without tiger woods playing with no manu around
So, what you're saying is a person who is not a fan of the Spurs doesn't like the Spurs?

I'm about to laugh at this. Hold on.
Don't break your hip in mid-chuckle.
It pains me to admit it as well, because I have great disdain for Terry - but he does deserve this award more than anyone else this year.
Yup you confirmed it. Dirk was the only one to do it for the season. Amazing feat.
Hmm. Guess you failed, Sportstudi.

Dirk was the only one to do it in 06-07, exactly what Sportstudi said. You and Bob Lanier need to learn how to read.
Hopefully this is a good omen.
Remember what happened the last time a Maverick won an individual award?
Anyways, to celebrate the occasion, here's a song dedicated to him by his own band:
Wow..the league is now 1 for 4 in its Coach of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Sixth Man of the Year awards.
Not true..Allanon likes the Spurs.![]()
I think it was clear that I meant the 2006-07 season. Of course, I know that other players have acvhieved that feat as well. Although there are some players in your list who are not on the official NBA list, because they didn't qualify (not enough shots made -> http://www.basketball-reference.com/..._stat_req.html)
So Amir Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Darrel Armstrong, Steve Kerr, Danny Young, Scott Hastings are out. Thus the only players who made it so far are: Larry Bird, Mark Price, Reggie Miller, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Jose Calderon.
Look at my explanation. I don't think so.
