If they keep the same players they won't be successful. End of thread
Let's point out areas in which our players need to improve so we can be successful next season. Assuming we keep the same players.
Tim Duncan: Don't go throwing tires around anymore. What ever is the doctor orders for condition so that knee will hold up, do it. He could do exercises to aid his agility. He has slowed a step so old school hook shot maybe something to focus on.
Tony Park: Top of the todem poll is lies the face of our frenchman. He could still work on his shooting. A nice step back would nice to add. Also, I would suggest three point shooting. He will be given more space throughout next season why not add it. He needs to touch up on his floater again. He used to never miss them and it seems a little off. I still think he has room for improvement on his passing too. His assist are rising, but I think he turned down a lot more shooters this year then last, possibly because of trust issues with newer players.
Manu: Turnovers. Work on patience and forcing shots. Maybe some tai chi or yoga may help. Other then health, hard to evaluate improvements on someone who has not played much this season. I admire his game with GOoden though.
Bowen: Keep the dust off the furnace. Agility exercises. I would like for him to add a step away jumper, something he has toyed with this season. Also, he is driving more so work on that layup
Finely: Keep the weight off. Work on feet movement on defense. If he is staying he needs to work on lateral movement exercises. An addition of different shot moves would be nice. Passing needs to be improved. Keep the fade away alive.
Udoka: (trying hard not to...must not diss) Agility, offensive moves..blah blah
Bonner: Confidence. Dribbling would be a nice improvement. Nothing crazy just alleviate the awkwardness of his dribbling. His offensive drives could be touched up. If he adds a series of moves to help him drive to hoop he could help his outside game. He will not be left open anymore.
to be continued...(gotta give the kids a bath)
If they keep the same players they won't be successful. End of thread
no . Since I don't have my lucky 8 ball certified by a real psychic I don't know what players will be here next season. I am working with what we got.
Bonner is doing what Portland had hoped Channing Frye would do. McMillan had him pencilled in as their first center off the bench before the season began. Frye's disappointed and disappeared. I doubt they re-sign him.
I say trade Bonner to the Blazers for either Travis Outlaw or Martell Webster. They have Roy, Fernandez, Batum, Outlaw, and Webster all competing for minutes at the two guard and small forward positions. Roy, Fernandez, and Batum are the ones who won't get traded.
Finley's improvement plan should be:
Stay away from the facility over the summer. Access denied.
oh cmon, finley is good with a smaller role. pops shouldn't have trusted him so much with playing as many minutes as he did. i member when he first joined the spurs and he'd have 20 pt. bench performances. i still like the guy, and i like udoka too under one condition: he steps up.
udoka is skilled and athletic, instead of taking jump shots with no confidence, he needs to take it to the rim like i've seen him do at times. he needs to live up to the expectation everyone had for him when he first signed with the spurs.
i think bowen needs to stay because he is mr. clutch and as old as he is, he still has a strong step as a defender.
roger mason needs to not be such an out-of-the-paint shooter, i'd like to see him drive it more.
i think the spurs could succeed with the guys they have (udoka, gooden, bonner and all), some of them just need to lower their heads and take it to the basket. that has been something that they've been very successful in the past, but this season, you almost never saw anybody drive.
also, Roger mason need to desperately work on his driving
and tony need to improve his endurance
The roster and supporting cast cannot improve if they continue bringing back the same old guys. That's what was wrong last season. Enough is enough. Finley MUST go.
