If you live in tornado alley during tornado season, you should at LEAST turn off all valuable appliances if you're going to be leaving for a while. Even more so, I would recommend unplugging everything. It sucks, but that's life in the region of the world with more supercells than any other.

Anytime I'm home and we have a big storm rolling in, I sigh and unplug my TV, computer, and game systems. I use my laptop on battery power to surf. If the storm zaps my router, oh well.

yeah, normally i turn my stuff off too, but i was out of town, and had no idea that a storm that bad was going to come through. plus i guess my roomate had friends over, so my computer and stuff was being used, and now its all ed up
