Well I hate to do it, but I gotta do it. People act like the refs in this league are above criticism. I beg to differ. And I offer proof. After watching how bad the refs have been lately, I've decided to start posting my compliations of the officiating of certain games. Just be forewarned that all of this is my opinion (which I think is very just, fair and accurate though). Any time a call is missed, or a bad call made, it will be noted along with the current game time. What this does is really break down the game so one can see who is getting away with what, and what team is benefitting the most. In this particular game, the referees were absolutely atrocious... when I was done logging everything I had 4 pages of scribbled notes. It was a nightmarish display of missed call, and blatant favoritism. With the lakers coming out clearly on top. One would think the lakers would have gotten these types of calls at their home gym, but that was not the case. It is no wonder nuggets looked clearly deflated halfway through the 4th quarter and they were still holding onto the lead. They were systematically beaten down by this crew.

    Anyway, here's the proof.

    1st quarter.

6:13 Loose ball foul on nuggets, was really hard to see a foul committed here, was significant because it stopped a potential nugget fast break. Questionable call lakers favor.

5:53 Odom takes a dribble and goes up for shot, Kenyon Martin deflects ball on the way up, Odom makes a wild shot that goes off the top of backboard, somehow the refs call this a foul on Martin. Announcer Mark Jackson agrees that its a bad call. Bad call lakers favor.

2:37 JR Smith with good anticipation jumps in front of Vuja to steal the pass, there is minimal (if any) contact. Refs call foul on Smith stopping yet another Nugget fast break. Bad call lakers favor.

    2nd quarter.

8:46 Anderson flying in for an offensive rebound, and is obviously shoved in the back my Odom, no call. Anderson likely gets this rebound and potential put back dunk if no shove. Missed call, lakers favor.

8:11 Odom after collecting the rebound that should have been a foul, takes it all the way driving to the hoop and steps on JR Smith's foot, causing him to throw up wild shot. Foul is called on Smith. Questionable call lakers favor.

7:28 Odom smacks Nene this time across the arm (who was going for loose ball).. should have been a loose ball foul on Odom. Nene gets that ball otherwise, instead the ball goes out of bounds nuggets turnover. Missed call lakers favor.

2:11 Refs finally call a foul on Odom, who commits yet another loose ball foul on Anderson. Odom whines and cries like the he is. Good call, finally.

1:13 Kenyon Martin blocks Kobe's flip shot, very hard to tell if ball is on the way down for goaltending. Even on frame by frame instant replay, I cannot determine if the ball has started its downward path when Martin blocks it. Birdman fouled Kobe anyway on the arm after the shot attempt. So I'll log this as a bad call against lakers. Missed call nuggets favor.

:07 Technical foul on Kleiza? Kleiza is boxing Gasol out of HIS basket. When Gasol takes and wraps his arm around and pulls him out of bounds. Then gives him an elbow for good measure. Kleiza reacts, and gets technical. Correct call is a no-call. Or technicall on both players. Bad call lakers favor.

    3rd quarter.

9:01 Nene called for foul on Bynum contesting shot. Looks to be minimal to non contact on play. Bad call, lakers favor.

8:30 Bryant fouled on 3pt shot by Dante Jones, refs miss it. Missed call, nuggets favor.

8:13 Anthony drives to basket, there is hard contact from Bynum body to body, Anthony misses shot, no foul call. Hard to imagine had this been Kobe there wouldn't have been a foul. Missed call, lakers favor.

6:30 Nene jumps onto Gasol on ground... going after loose ball. Just a tad much contact for my liking. Should have been a loose ball foul on Nene. Missed call, nuggets favor.

6:30 Fisher called for technical foul. It was Kenyon Martin at the jump ball circle that initiates this skirmish. Should have been called on KMart all the way. Bad call nuggets favor.

6:25 Dante Jones comes into Gasol knee first on driving layup, should have been offensive foul. Missed call, nuggets favor.

5:48 Nene called for phantom contact in post defense. Critical call, because nuggets are in penalty. Bad call, lakers favor.

5:33 Bynum shoves Anderson in back who has inside position for offensive rebound, no call. Missed call, lakers favor.

5:01 Anthony called for offensive foul, as Walton does his best swan dive flop. Anthony uses his off arm to get around Walton, but doesn't push off, just good acting my Walton to sell the foul. Questionable call, lakers favor.

3:32 Walton again flops this time against JR Smith who barely bumps him. Questionable call, lakers favor.

3:05 Anderson called for slight bump to the back of Gasol. This type of call all depends on how the officials are calling it that night. It could be tolerated or called. But since both Odom and Bynum have shoved Anderson earlier in the game (and MUCH harder) .. with no call. Just plain inconsistency here. You can't just change the way you call the game in the 4th quarter, so this is going in the bad calls. Bad call, lakers favor.

2:04 Smith throws up a wild shot from 3pt line, nugget player hits it last out of bound, refs miss the call. Missed call, nuggets favor.

1:18 Vuja flops after Anthony Carter shove underneat the basket, should have been a loose ball foul, no reason this is a technical foul. Bad call, lakers favor.

:05 Vuja fouls Smith on 3pt shot, not called. Smith taunts Vuja and gets technical (which is correct call). Where's the foul though? Vuja clearly with the forearm shiver to the chest on the shot. Missed call, lakers favor.

    4th quarter.

10:12 Farmar should have been not only T'd up but ejected for throwing the ball into the stands. Missed call, lakers favor.

7:35 Gasol intiates alot of contact on Anderson's attempted dunk.. announcers think Anderson just misses dunk. Doubt it. Questionable call, lakers favor.

5:30 Kobe fouled on 3pt shot by Smith, not called. Missed call, nuggets favor.

4:53 Ariza fouls Anthony on drive, alot of contact on play, even announcers agree. Missed call, lakers favor.

4:22 Odom again gets away with contact on shooter. Kenyon Martin this time, throws off his shot. Missed call, lakers favor.

    Final tally

Questionable call lakers favor - 4
Bad call lakers favor - 7
Missed call lakers favor - 8

Questionable call nuggets favor - 0
Bad call nuggets favor - 1
Missed call nuggets favor - 6

    Total calls favoring lakers 19
    Total calls favoring nuggets 7

conclusion: 19-7 is a pretty hefty difference. When you figure 1 bad call either way can be game altering, having .. um... 12 is pretty significant for the lakers.

I know what alot of ppl will say.. well the nuggets still had chances to win at the end. Your absolutely right, they did. But the refs took the heart and fight right out of them during the course of the game. If you look at their body language by the midway point of the 4th quarter, they'd already lost the game by then. If they were mentally tougher then maybe the refs wouldn't have bothered them, but they don't appear to be. Well lets see how they bounce back for game 4.

Nicely done. LaKunt posters cannot stand fairness, which I'm sure you knew and anticipated their trolling.

Q for you on a couple more.
    1. Seems like Birdman also got wrung up for a touch foul on Gasol in the late 4th, like 5 minutes or less to go.

    2. Did JR Smith actually foul Ko at 96-95 with 38 seconds left? I had a distracted view.

Sidepoint, while Gasol was nails on those 4th qtr turnaround jumpers, on the one wasn't he camped in the key for like 5 seconds?

You forgot that J.R.Smith should've gotten a flagrant foul with that push from behind on Kobe. He didn't even try to make a play on the ball. That was more dirty than Kobe's elbow on Artest's "throat".

I believe it was Dante Jones that pushed Kobe not J.R.

    heres what you do

get some credible source or even a video and annotate it. then do some of your pseudo amateur analysis with the concrete evidence/source as backbone. At that point I would read/watch your argument acknowledge that at that point it would make sense, then I would say "Stop crying".

But were not even at that point yet with what we have here.

Thank you, Fabbs. Yes I didn't think I would get a favorable response from the laker fans here. Oh well.

The Birdman foul I did recognize as a "bad call lakers favor". And yes Smith fouled Kobe on the 3.

Gasol never really camps in the lane much that I've noticed.

First off, it wasn't JR Smith it was Dante Jones. I'll give you that it easily could have been considered flagrant. The only reason it wasn't was because the shove was soft, just enough to throw off the shot. The intention by Jones was clearly not to harm, only to make Kobe earn it from the line. That's hardly a dirty play, but yes it could be considered flagrant because it wasn't a play on the ball.

    I stopped reading there.
Farmar clearly left his feet and travelled, then had a temper tantrum and whipped the ball at the basket support.

Problem is, he missed the support and the ball flew into the crowd and could have hurt someone. This type of outrageous behaviour has to be met with stiffer penalty. Ejection would have been the appropriate call. Even Jeff Van Gundy said the same.

Total foul calls is 100% irrelevant, quite honestly. Never ceases to amaze me that ppl still use this argument. As if the officials need to call equal numbers of fouls per game in order to do their job correctly.

Now put your dunce cap on and go sit in the corner.

So adding the flagrant on Dante Jones as a bad call favoring the nuggz, that leaves the tally at 19-8. That's still 11 more calls favoring the lakers. Flip a coin 27 times and see if you get heads or tails 19 out of the 27. Its very statistically improbable.

How come there's no scorecard after Game 4?

Maybe because the Nuggets shot almost 50 free throws? Maybe because Dahntay Jones can just trip Kobe when he feels like it?

Laker Opponents have now shot more free thows than the Lakers in 10 out of 16 games.

If David Stern is rigging a Kobe/LeBron Finals, he's doing a turrible, turrible job of showing love to the Lakers.

Conspiracy theories or ref Bias for Kobe?? There ain't no conspiracies fellas and certainly no ref love for Kobe, watch the video ....
