He's gonna opt out and get 135M$/5yrs... It's been clear, even with the Lakers willingness to go over the tax limit by approximately $15 million, that they would end up losing either Odom or Ariza. With this new demand from Kobe, do they lose both?

There's no way they lose both. I also wouldn't take everything (or anything for that matter) you find on realgm.com seriously.

You should know if he opts out, his base year at the start of his potential new contract would be lower than the next year's salary at his current contract.

In a nuts , it would benefit the Lakers because it would save a few million. The year after that Ammo comes off as does a few other scrubs.

Kobe can't get that contract from what I've heard. Something about him being over 36 by the time his contract wears out not allowing him to get that kind of money. Don't quote me on that though, I just heard some other guy saying it.

Regardless on the length, the fact is if he opts out, the max he can re-up for is less/year than it is now.

^ I didn't even think of that but it actually works out for LA because it gives them cap room for the next 1-2 years when they'll really need it.

They clearly need BOTH if they want to repeat:

    - Ariza was money in the playoffs

    - Odom = matchup problems

If one of them goes, L.A is ed

Don't worry, the Lakers already have a lopsided trade ready to cover the potential loss of Odom and Ariza. Here is the rumored, proposed trade: Adam Morrison, Luke Walton for Lebron James and Jerry West. I hear it's a done deal. J U S T K I D D I N G! joke. Haha.

No seriously, losing both would leave the Lakers f*cked. They need to sign one of them to have a shot at repeating.

Lakers are still contenders w/o Ariza.

Arguably w/o Odom too if Bynum was to find his pre-injury level of play.

It's a testament to their depth of talent.

I was mildly surprised that they were able to do so well in the playoffs despite Bynum playing poorly.

doesnt surprise me that he milks that franchise for that much money instead of signing for a lesser deal in order to accommodate all that talent. he is selfish. he's all smiles now cause of the ring he just won.

thats the reason why duncan will end up with more rings in the end, he's willing to take lesser money just like tom brady

If they lose Ariza or Odom, they would most definitely be contenders, but the gap between the Lakers and everyone else would close significantly. It would really open things up in the league.

if for some in weird reason they lose both Ariza and Odom, Boston is the favorite to win it all next year. Unfortunately for the rest of the league, they're probably keeping both.

Please get the numbers right and add some perspective.

So, that means Bryant, 30, could become an unrestricted free agent by terminating his Lakers contract with two more years and $47.8 million on it. He could then re-sign with the Lakers for five years and about $135 million.

That amounts to roughly a $3.1 million annual raise.

LA makes more on one home playoff game than the raise Kobe gets a year. Keep this team together and LA is damn near guaranteed to play in June and turn another huge profit - even with the lux tax, LO, Ariza, SB and Kobe.

People hate the Lakers because they're teams ain't the Lakers.

Not necessarrily; a lot of people hate the Lakers but the hate is misplaced against the team when it may be more the at ude of some Laker fans they dislike.

Maybe so but as a whole - not pointing any fingers - the Lakers ability and success in doing business is on another level compared to every other NBA franchise.

Fans often are annoying for every team - the ones that are annoying and right is where the hate really grows.

, the reason why Spurs fans can't get rid of Laker fans is because Laker fans know no other franchise has been on their level the past 10-15 years.

Jeanie Buss was interviewed on Sporting News radio the other day. She says her father is going to do everything he can to keep this team intact and that means keeping both Odom and Ariza.

The Lakers right now are and will be better than any team in the West especially if both resign so no argument there. So non Lakers fan shouldn't fret or moan; accept it. All other teams in the west need to rebuild and get better...easier said than done but it's not impossible.
