Josh Howard for 5th pick???? I can't read the article cause it's for members only![]()
dont worry. espn insider just reposts rumors from hoopshype or realgm and makes people pay
Does not make sense. Why would the Wiz want Howard? They already have Butler. Jason Terry would make more sense.
Even then it would leave the Mavs with a gaping hole at the SG position. Unless they got Nick Young or someone in the deal. But then that would be a bad deal for the Wiz imo.
Maybe if the Wiz are looking to dump a bad contract they can give away the 5th and Young???
arenas, butler, howard, jameson, haywood. are you kidding me thats awesome. the 2,3,4 guys can all switch if they want on matchups. to me its better than drafting jrue holliday or thabet if he slips. nothing to help a vet team aging fast
Playing Butler and Howard together? That does not make too much sense. There is only one ball to go around, who is going to relinquish their shots?
Maybe Terry for Mike James, Stevenson + the 5th pick? Don't know if the Mavs would do that though. But this is sell high time on Terry and a top 5 pick + cap space is a pretty good deal. Or maybe subs ute Blatche for Stevenson?
You lose some offense, but Stevenson is a much better defender.

Mavs eye pick No. 5?
The Mavericks are said to be interested in the fifth pick and the prospect of drafting Jordan Hill. The teams have made nice in the past, most recently in the swap that secured Antawn Jamison in 2004. The Mavericks also were kind enough to relieve the Wizards of Juwan Howard in 2001.
The Mavericks apparently are willing to part with either Jason Terry or Josh Howard to sweeten a potential deal. The Mavericks would be obligated to accept an expiring contract of the Wizards, the one belonging to either the Etan Thomas or Mike James. -- The Washington Times"
This would be great. Another spur killer sent to eastern conference!!!!!!
does that mean kidd isnt resigned and dirk is on the block to rebuild?
Surely the wizards will offer us some other trades as conditions, which will transport their long contracts onto our book for some expiring ones like Damp and Stack. Maybe our boys in blue will acquire Jamison in this summer, or even Gilbert Arenas, though their contracts would probably become garbage due to Gilbert's injury history and Jamison's age.
I hate dumb rumors, just designed to generate page clicks. I'm sure this Jordan Hill kid will probably be a pretty good player someday, but the Mavs are in win-now mode and I fail to see how he helps them more next year over Josh or Jet. I definitely think Dallas needs to trade JET while they can sell high on him and Josh because he restored his value, but does this make sense?
I totally agree, our beloved Dirk is already on the other side of 30, which means he won't have so many more years to play at the superstar level. The 5th pick won't help us too much in the short term so it's only a small part of our motive to make this deal. Either Jamison or Butler would give us much more help than Smokey would probably do next season, even if it was just a lateral move to trade smokey for Butler or Jamison, the 5th overall pick would still make some sense for us. Compared to those inconsistent big contract owners like Kaman and Maggette, I would rather acquire Butler or Jamison, or even both of them if the Wizards want to extend our cooperation to another level.
Dallas would be stupid to not try and work a Shaq trade out.
I pledge the Suns would be the winners of Josh Howard if they also agreed to offer us their lottery pick. Out of one or two outstanding guys, the next dozen of draftees are generally around the same level, so the 5th pick wouldn't bring us much more than a 14th one may probably do. That would also be a deal if the Suns accepted the package of Stack/Damp for shaq, then Smokey would be sent to D.C. for the 5th pick and some outrageous contracts. A decent rookie has tons of meanings to our boys in blue, especially in 2 or 3 seasons when our team started to rebuild. Hopefully our boys in blue will gain some rings before that happens.
Mono is right that they need to get rid of Antoine Wright, JJ Barea, and Devean George. Dampier and Stack for Shaq would make them a top 3 team in the conference. If they drafted James Harden with the pick they got for Howard then they would actually be gaining maturity.
Our guys in blue are trying to win NOW.
A rookie isn't gonna come in and make a big impact. if you added a rookie Lebron or Kobe to the Mavs it wouldn't be an over the top move.
Trading for the 5th would only make sense if we weren't trying to win now, which would mean we should trade Dirk, which is LAME since NJ has the 2010 pick.
Unless the objective was to ac ulate assets for potential sign and trades in the 2010 offseason. but "tanking" a year can suck it!
Decisions, decisions.
I'm holding out hope for a Gasol like heist salary dump.
Our boys in blue have been among the top 3 of the conference for many years, their unsatisfying stats for regular season and postseason were totally created by the unpleasant officiating work. Our boys in blue would have got their second consecutive championship if they hadn't lost the rigged first round to Warriors in 07. Even though these boys in blue have descended slightly since then, we still have to mention them when asked which teams are the best ones in this league. It would be ideal for boys in blue if we could get shaq at the only expense of two garbage contracts in Damp and Stack, but it's really too difficult to find any reason on Suns behalf to get this trade done, as long as the Suns still consider themselves a contender in the west and a rival to the boys in blue. Shaq would just push our team one step forward for our second championship in team history.
Pfffft.
Antoine Wright is the MAN!
And he played well in the playoffs due to a reduced role. He is not a bad 12-15 minute bench player option and if he can improve his shot he would be GOOD!
He's just not a starting 2 guard.
As for Shaq, "meh". Dirk/Shaq frontline is monstrously efficient on offense but it really wouldn't improve the defense. Possibility of Shaq declining as well. Would be an upgrade though.
He'd get into trouble pretty fast if he moves to the DC area...
BS rumor...Mavs arent trying to tank next season bc NJ gets the Mavs pick and its not lottery protected...If mavs trade Howard it will be for a main piece that can contribute immediately not a spare PF at the #5 pick. If Mavs do a trade like this, its just a slap in the face to Dirk bc it just wastes away another year of his career
I'm not crazy about Jordan Hill, and I don't understand any trade with the Wizards that doesn't give us Arenas, Butler, or Jamison in return. So this is pretty much re ed.
There's nothing Erica does on defense that Shaq doesn't.
sons why don't they just trade him to the thuggin and buggin Denver Nuggets? then he could smoke all the weed he wants at anytime. they allow it in the clubhouse there along with dice gambling.
