Didn't he say he has an MLE offer already? I wonder who it is?

There’s also a tough-love side to this story. Gortat’s agent mentioned wanting a full mid-level exception. That amounts to around $30 million over five years.
The Rockets aren’t offering nearly that much and apparently aren’t prepared to go higher. They’ve assigned a value to Gortat, and if, say, the Mavericks are offering more, the Rockets are prepared to lose him.
While Morey wants a compe ive team next season, he seems unwilling to take his eye off the big picture. Unless the Rockets can acquire a superstar this summer, they want to retain their payroll flexibility for next summer, when there’ll be a bumper crop of free agents available.

Posturing on both sides.
I can see from Morey's negotiating stance, we will not get Artest nor Gortat. Rockets are in full tank mode right now.
This is pretty much how the offseason is going to go for most teams. 2010 cap space does all the talking right now.
In the long run, a pretty smart decision on their part.
Plan B in action
if they tank should move a few of the contracts imo....move them while they still have value.....
Let him walk? When did they have Gortat??
Tankapalooza 2009 is commencing.
2010 draft looks promising, Gortat ain't gonna make the Rockets a contender; just respectable.
Tank for #1 in next year's draft and some primetime FA's.
mavs....i wonder how many years they offered. if they do full mle and 5 years then they are some dumb s.
Exactly what i was thinking. Very poor wording from the OP
