Hedo will be grossly overpaid next season
Hidayet Turkoglu: Opting Out of Contract
Update: Turkoglu will opt out of the final year of his contract on June 30 and become a free agent, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Recommendation: As it stands now, the Magic are hoping to avoid paying the luxury tax next season, but team president Bob Vander Weide said that accommodations could be made to bring Turkoglu back into the picture. Turkgolu was third on the team in scoring (16.8 points per game) while leading the Magic in minutes played (36:36/game) in 77 games this season.
At 30 years old I'm not sure if you can afford to resign him, I mean Lewis already has a awful contract. Maybe a sign and trade would work?
Opting out to sign a long term deal for the MLE?
Who the is going to pay him with a starting salary more than the $7.3 million he was going to make next year?
I don't think he'll be grossly overpaid. I didn't see anything too impressive out of him. Sure some clutch play, but he made a zillion mistakes and crappy plays along the way. He'd screw up a million times and I'd want him dead, then he'd barely come through in the clutch. I don't think GMs will fall for it.
not in this economy.
haha never underestimate the pure greed of an nba player.
he's already in a great position there in orlando, hes already filthy rich, and yet hes still willing to toss it aside if some team is willing to pay him just a little more money.
they are always ready to go after still more money, even if they are already wealthy and on a great team.
Who is going to try and sign for him? Not sure who he'd fit better with than the Magic... maybe the 76ers? *shrug*
This doesn't make sense to me. Who is going to pay him more than 7 million? Hardly any teams have cap room and money to spend and the ones that do aren't spending it on Hedo.
hedo does more then manu and gets paid less
How's daren harren you stupid .
Even though most teams have chosen to keep their salary space for 10 free agent market, there still should be some teams not able to hold their appe e this offseason. Hedo will get a huge contract this summer from either the Pistons or his origin team Magic, probably 10m/yr lasting 4-5 years.
So it could end up the Pistons traded away Billups for ...Turk?
good
should be 8-1 if not 9-0
one of the better era's
2 complete games already this year
you gotta be kidding, he led the Magic to the finals as the only real play maker of the team, he made much better choices than your Nash would do. Except the last two 3's he missed in the OT of finals game 4(he made 2 clutch shots in the last minute of normal time), he made all the clutch shots/assists. You sound like you never watched Orlando in the post-season. For sure he wont get a superstar contact but i'm sure he can get over 10-11m/year in any team.
I hope Utah gets him.
I suspect Hedo is looking for long-term security. Not a bad idea this side of 30, even if he sacrifices some money next year. I think he and Orlando will eventually work something out.
he is white so im sure utah would make him a priority
Looks like the Magic are willing to pay to keep him around:

AP story, can't copy here per Kori. Basically, the COO says the Magic are prepared to pay the luxury tax (and why else if not to keep Hedo around).
10 million. why not trash like maggette got that .
Heres the NBA.com article on the Magic cool with paying the luxury tax.
Same (or very similar) AP story.
