Andrew Sullivan"Republican leadership calls for Obama to condemn Iran's election results and speak out for the demonstrators shows no knowledge of Iran whatsoever. If he did so, America would become the issue in Iran, not Ahmadinejad, and we would become the excuse and justification for spilling Iranian blood. These sniping remarks by Republican leaders also shows they put pandering to their right wing above American national security. Why can't they listen to their own real foreign policy expert -- Senator Richard Lugar -- and see and say that the U.S. must exercise restraint in our public statements for Iran's sake and our own," - Les Gelb.
We've known for some time that the United States cannot afford the current Republican leadership to be in charge of foreign policy. They have neither the understanding, judgement or temperament to do so. They veer from hoping Ahmadinejad to win all the way to wanting to stand up and get the president cheering for one faction in an extremely tense and difficult situation. Just thank your stars we do not have McCain or Palin grandstanding this in the White House right now. Or Cantor's AIPAC-dictated cant in the House.

You need to brush up on your reading skills if you believe that. Why is the GOP supporting Ahmad?
I think the le of this thread and the political cartoon are contradictory to the point of the blog post. Some Neocons want Ahmadinejad so they can keep their dumbed-down "axis of evil" narrative going. Most Republicans are like most Americans across the political spectrum, in that they support the reform/pro-democracy protest movement going on. The sentiment is genuine, but of course that isn't stopping them from trying to fashion a crude club to bash Obama out of this.
...and of course, some of them are too stupid to pull it off.

This revolution fervor is intoxicating stuff. It makes people not even remember stuff they said five minutes ago. Case in point, this Wolf Blitzer interview with Mike Pence:
PENCE: Look, I appreciate the fact that the president said that the protesters have a right to be heard and respected and I appreciate the fact that he said he is troubled but I respectfully disagree with the administration’s decision to—to essentially draw the line at not meddling and not interfering.
Look, the cause of America is freedom. And in that cause, we must never be silent. And if the president wants to draw the line and say that we are not going to stand with those brave citizens of Iran who are taking to the streets the last five days on behalf of democracy, on behalf of the freedom of speech and free elections, then I think the Congress behind me ought to take up a resolution that very simply expresses the support of the American people through their elected representatives for the people of Iran who are taking a stand for freedom.
Thirty seconds later, the same man, sitting in the same seat, said the following:
PENCE: Well, look, I don’t think we should be in the business of endorsing the opposition candidate. What I want the Congress of the United States to do, and frankly what I would like to see the president of the United States of America do is speak a word of support to the people of Iran.
Amazing. What exactly does Pence think is going on in Iran?
Why is Obama attacking Fox News.
You see friend, without an enemy for Obama to direct the people's attention to the people will see Obama for what he really is.
More games saturating the people that the Right favors Accccchhhhmaaaaaaddeeeememmmmaajiiiihaaaaad...![]()
The same reason the Mossad wants him in power. They need villains to continue their politics of fear.
They should ask counsel from Obama. He's getting good with that tool.
The le of the thread is completely ridiculous, as is the purported sentiment behind it. There may be some demented people out there that happen to be republican, and also stupid enough to support Ahmadinejad's regime, however to try and paint with as large of a brush as Nbadan is is as ridiculous as me saying that all democrats are socialists.
As for the rest, if Ahmadinejad is the duly elected President of Iran, then I would say that we should respect their peoples wishes, and not jack with him about the election. This doesn't mean the US should support his decisions, we just recognize that it is valid that he is in position to make those decisions. If he's not, and we are capable of aiding the Iranian people in a manner that doesn't harm the US, then we should.
Thats from the head of the Mossad. Pretty ing amazing."The reality in Iran is not going to change because of the elections. The world and we already know [Iranian President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad. If the reformist candidate [Mir Hossein] Mousavi had won, Israel would have had a more serious problem because it would need to explain to the world the danger of the Iranian threat, since Mousavi is perceived internationally arena as a moderate element...It is important to remember that he is the one who began Iran's nuclear program when he was prime minister."
Rank generalizations to support your point of view. Another hallmark of mind numbingly stupid partisan politics.
