Dejuan Blair might be close to stealing the le of "Basketball Jesus" away from Devin Harris without even playing a single minute in the NBA yet.

There he was, Jahidi White 2.0 waiting for the Washington Wizards to snatch him up with the 32nd pick of the 2009 NBA Draft. To an extent, it was surprising that he had dropped that far; but the pick was there for the taking by the Wizards.
At this point, I’ll let the tale of the Tweets tell the remainder of the story, as authored by esteemed local sports bloggers and writers.
@BurberryNHoop Maybe w/him falling so low, maybe the Washington Mystics will have the opp to draft Blair instead….
@Unsilent Dear Ernie, B-L-A-I-R. Love, Everyone
@jamiemottram Jeff Van Gundy’s “team assessment” is that the Wizards “need a shooting guard”. ESPN scroll analysis FAIL.
Then, the pick came in: Jermaine Taylor from the University of Central Florida. A shooting guard. My response?
@jarrett_carter Great. The Wizards pick the FORMER middleweight champ of the world.
And then, other reactions.
@dcsportsbog Hmmmm. Wiz draft a “scoring guard” while I was finishing resizing a DeJuan Blair photo. Guess I’ll go to sleep now.
@jamiemottram DeJuan Blair, who out rebounded entire teams last season, would have been of no use to the rebound-deficient Wizards. None at all.
@Unsilent I hate life.
And for good measure, some reaction from outside the DMV, shortly after Blair was picked by the San Antonio Spurs.
@CRM_alumnigonzo So DaJuan Blair will definitely be a good-to-great pro now. Good to know.
And that pretty much sums it up. All in a night’s work for a few disgruntled bloggers and reporters, same old business for the Washington Wizards draft exploits.
Dejuan Blair might be close to stealing the le of "Basketball Jesus" away from Devin Harris without even playing a single minute in the NBA yet.
You can stop short of JJ Hickson comparisons, but Blair's still going to be a perennial all NBA performer.
If he gives the Spurs 15-20 decent minutes per game, I'll be happy.
Put it to you like this, who would you rather have? Blair or Oberto on the court?![]()
Mason, now Blair
They must hate us in Washington![]()
This Blair guy reminds me of When the Rockets drafted Joey dorsey last year. "The next Ben Wallace", right?
Go easy with the criticism, now. We wouldn't want anyone think you're "jealous" or a "hater".
Oh I know next to nothing about Blair, I just remember going through the same thing last year.Truth is, Dorsey might still be as good as we all hoped, but he didn't show us anything last year.
Blair is easily the next JJ Hickson. I'll be shocked if we aren't looking at a future hall of famer. I can't wait til he comes into the league and finally squashes all the hype about ACL's. Those things have been overrated for too many years.
Blair >>> Dorsey
Wait, does this guy really not have ACL's? Is that even possible??
Kind of like the potential for 7 foot centers from New Jersey?![]()
my whole theory on the "no ACL's" thing is that a Spurs fan from Spurstalk with good photoshop skills modified the scan images to look like they where missing. Just look around for some of the obvious photoshop skills we have on this site.
Getting Blair at 37, is like getting Jesus at number 1. So the comparison is valid.
I'm tired of the spurs pulling off ridiculously good moves all the time, its baffling
I know, we conned you bas s into taking Scola when Matt Bonner was an available FA. Plus you gave us the Greek T-Mac aswell.
Great move.
Lol Jermaine "Bad Intentions" Taylor ain't that bad lol
It went all according to plan. The Spurs had to do the Scola deal to trick everyone into thinking they had become stupid, so nobody would notice while they tampered with Blair's medical records and used mind control on every other team's doctors to land Charles Barkley 2.0 with the 37th pick.
A masterpiece.
