    First, a hypothetical:

LeBron James' Cavs repeat their regular season success next year, with a 60 win season, then waltz through the first two rounds again, duke it out and win the ECF's, and take home the championship.

LeBron has his ring. Shaq has his fifth.

Does the "Kobe can't win without Shaq" argument become "Shaq cannot even make the finals without one of the sickest perimeter players in the league"?

Penny Hardaway was a bball god that year the magic made it
    Then he had kobe.
Dwyane Wade was amazing in 2006, playing the mavs only made him look like the second coming of Jordan.
Then Shaq will have been treated to playing with LeBron.

Fans will point out when teamed with two time mvp Steve Nash, his suns did jack . Lost in the first round, even. Fans might say he needed an elite perimeter threat with multiple scoring ability, a premiere talent for the year.

Does Shaq, even by winning a fifth ring, become the bigger ?

No wing no ring. Shaq cannot fly regardless of wings. Literally and Figuratively.

The Cavs might end up as the EC rep but, no way they beat the Spurs for the Championship. Tim gets #5 before Shaq!

No, because Shaq was the primary threat and presence to the first three Lakers le teams.

Besides, you could still make the argument that Kobe can't win without an all-star post player, since his le didn't come until Gasol.
