Johnston: Palin wanted to take the money, 'forget everything else'
(CNN) — Sarah Palin wanted to take the money and "just run with it," the father of her grandchild said Thursday.
Levi Johnston told reporters the Alaska governor was stepping down early to take advantage of millions in potential earnings. According to the Anchorage Daily News, the 19-year-old said that late last year he heard Palin say "how nice it would be to take some of this money people have been offering us and just run with it, and saying forget everything else."
He pointed to talk show offers and other potentially lucrative deals.
Earlier this week, Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein told the Washington Post that the governor had received "hundreds of credible offers since the campaign," including Hollywood projects, but had not taken advantage of any except her book deal. Johnston said that even the Palin children had been fielding offers.
Johnston said he saw how stressful Palin's job was for her – "how she came home late at night and things like that" – but said he thought " the big deal was the book. That was millions of dollars."
Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton dismissed Johnston's take, referencing his own show business aspirations. "It is interesting to learn Levi is working on a piece of fiction while honing his acting skills," Stapleton told reporters.

The fact that Palin's spokeperson actually responded to this is probably what's simultaneously most hilarious and most damning. The train wreck continues.
dysfunction junction.
pitbull , Michael Jackson, Hulk Hogan, Hollywood bimbos.
Celebrity trumps mediocrity.
Excellence need not apply.
The whole ing country is psychologically and intellectually arrested, dumbed down, in its early teens, exactly where the entertainment business and corporate marketers want it.
Why do you think that is and do you believe those are the only groups who benefit?
Even if what Levi said is accurate, what's the problem?
Publishers? Yeah, they make some coin off it.
Good for Palin. I hope she makes a load of cash!!!!! Her and the family deserve it. I have to thank Levi for giving us this breaking news and of course that dumbass Cry Havoc thinking this is soooo funny. What a tool.
America's first political prisoner has spoken...
I see nothing wrong with what she said. It's just whistful thinking.
When I used to count cash I'd say to this girl like "3 hours and we'd be in Mexico".
It's harmless and I'm sure she said it in a joking manner.
With that being said, I do think that her stepping down decision had more to do with her monetary / political potential than anything to do with Alaska.
Levi Johnston is the source for this story?
wow
If it was an anonymous source you'd discount it for being... well... anonymous. If it was a McCain campaign worker you'd discount it as being prejudiced. If it was from a politician in Alaska you'd discount it as jealousy.
If it's from Levi Johnston... somebody who spent a a large chunk of the last year with her... you'd discount it because you like discounting things you don't agree with.
Nice.
You're re ed.
He was simply using experiences from his past (her saying she wanted to take the money and run) to put it into context for a current event.
It's his opinion. He was asked and he answered.
either way. it's levi johnston. and people think palin is begging to be in the spotlight. that's like believing howard k stern. you people..................
First of all, she said she was stepping down to help Alaska, not to make money.
Secondly, so what? I wasn't ripping on her. The only thing I said that could even be construed as negative is that she is incapable of handling criticism, and since when is that new? I'm amused because they chose to respond to something that shouldn't even have media attention with an actual statement by her spokesperson.
She doesn't need to defend herself against this individual, because he sounds extremely bitter (ex-fiance, duh) and is probably just lashing out at her while he has the ability to do so. Palin hasn't done anything expressly wrong here unless she lied about why she left office, and even then, that's her business. If she wants to go make money ahead of being governor, I'd rather not have her in office. If she thinks she's unfit to continue the position, I'd rather have someone else who wants the job.
I just think the situation is funny. Continue with your string of unbroken posts in the political forum where you insult others and/or fail to contribute a single intelligible point, though. It's humorous that you post so much yet never have anything of value to say.
Seriously? Levi Johnston is a credible source to you?
If Kwame Brown calls Tim Duncan out for not being an effective post player, do you think Tim would respond?
It's even worse of a comparison here, because Levi has absolutely nothing to do with Palin's job as governor and nothing to do with politics in general, to my knowledge. Yet she chose to respond to him through her spokesperson. Do you really think that's a good idea?
To reiterate, I think Levi is an idiot and his comments are not in any way truth or even the basis of believability. This is so much of a non-issue that I'm just surprised and humored that Palin responded to him.
hey man. you're ruining his flow
An older protocol wouldn't have dignified Levi with an official response to such disreputable nonsense.
But the new science says respond to everything, smother every demon in its cradle, so screw all that pre-9/11 thinking.
The press release raises Levi to a level of prominence and exposure he might not otherwise enjoy. It aggrandizes the enemy.
Maybe Levi is being groomed for a reality based telenovela, as the biker boyfriend.
