I don't know if this is too early for the game thread, so mods please delete if I've violated protocol.

I had a question: On the NBA game selection screen, tonight's game vs. the Blazers and tonight's Denver vs. D-league game are both in bold print; does this mean anything in particular? They are the only two games in all of the summer league schedule that are in bold print (http://summerleague.istreamplanet.co...er/default.asp). I'm hoping this doesn't mean they're blacked out for some reason. Does anyone know? Spursdotcom, any idea?

I've also been checking box scores of summer league games, and so far I've only been able to find a couple players who had the same (or greater) efficiency rating as George Hill (20). I think they were Anthony Morrow and Blake Griffin.

    http://www.nba.com/summerleague2009/...er=george_hill

[EDIT] Anthony Randolph has a ridiculous efficiency rating of 30.

I don't know about the bold. The NBA charging to watch the summer league games is a total joke though. MSG in NY is broadcasting the Knicks game tonight. How lame is that for Knicks fans, I sure hope they aren't blacking out the Spurs game. That would be lame.

Patty Mills is still out with the foot injury, but I hope we get to see a lot of Hill vs. Bayless. Are any of their bigs any good? Pendergraph is the only one I've heard of.

I actually feel sorry for Thabeet. He seems like a nice guy from the couple of interviews I've seen. Blair's going to crush him again.

They need to give more minutes to Gist and McClinton, even though they haven't proved themselves yet. Maybe throwing them deeper into the fire will get them to produce.

Agreed. If nothing else I think the 5th and final game will be their opportunity to play big minutes...sink or swim.

I don't really see anything that will come from Gist or McClinton though..I'd rather continue to let the main 4 get into a rhythm and build some chemistry..
They don't have to take minutes away from them its just that I would rather see McClinton struggle then see Donnell Taylor struggle he is playing way too many minutes..

Unless you live in Vegas, you shouldn't be worried about a blackout.

Blazers look pretty good on paper. Not sure how they are 0-3.

Bayless and Jeter at point guard should be a handful for Hill.

Cunningham and Pendergraph should be a good match for Mahinmi and Blair.

    B. Jones and Gardener won't be easy covers for Hairston.

Since these last two games are a back-to-back, I'm guessing we'll see Blair sit out one of the games. There's a chance that this is the last real game and that all the summer league stars sit out tomorrow to let the scrubs get some action.

Thanks. I was just worried because on rare occasions last season (twice I think), the NBA would blackout League Pass games in my area (College Station) for some bizarre reason; they were airing it on a channel that wasn't even available here. I even went to Buffalo Wild's since they have practically every sports channel, and they couldn't get it.

The only thing McClinton hasn't done is shoot the ball well. He has distributed it nicely in his truncated appearances. He has played good defense. His real value to the Spurs will be to sit out at the 3 point line and bury the open bomb. Unfortunately, he is not getting any looks like that. You see no one in summer league drawing a double team and kicking it out or driving and dishing. He has had to try and create his own shots and to his credit has not forced it. He has taken very few shots so far. I feel certain he will get an invite to camp.

Summer League never makes much sense when it comes to scores and standings. Even fouls often have little significance considering the whistle-Rambo's they have officiating out there. That record is simply a testament to what summer league is not: a compe ion.

I hope George Hill has sat down with McClinton and shown him some box scores from his summer league '08, and told him not to get discouraged and to continue playing his game.... the Spurs are pretty good at identifying talent, and that alone should give him some confidence.
