Gortat Injury A Serious Concern For Katzurin And Poles
Poland travelled to London this weekend for Game On At The O2 looking to build some confidence for the EuroBasket they are hosting next month.
They are going to leave full of concern after losing star center Marcin Gortat to a back injury which coach Muli Katzurin believes could keep him out of next month's big event.
Gortat suffered what initially appeared to be a minor injury in Friday's 70-56 win over O2 hosts Great Britain, but Katzurin has revealed it could be worse.
"He's going to hospital in Warsaw," said Katzurin, "so he's definitely out for Sunday's game.
"It's tough to make decisions until he has been seen by a doctor, but we suspect it's a bad injury."
Poland recently played Croatia in two tough games and prevailed in one of them to instill confidence in the troops.
Friday's 70-56 win over Great Britain fuelled even more optimism.
But now, heading into Sunday's game, everyone in the national team set-up and back in Poland will be taking a deep breath and hoping that Gortat, who played big minutes with the Orlando Magic in this year's NBA Finals and is arguably Poland's most important player, is okay.
Poland will take on Turkey, Lithuania and Bulgaria in Group D at the EuroBasket, which tips off on September 7.

Thankfully Magic matched Donnie's offer.![]()
...........I remember when Otis matched the offer, and Mav fans were like " Otis", now yall are like "Thank you Otis"
Why are fans acting like signing Gortat for a reasonable deal was a bad move because he got hurt?
Any man who has a tattoo on his calf muscle should have something bad happen to him.
nope bro, I haven't given a slim piece of praise to Donnie's work this summer except the Marion trade. Gortat may be a nice backup for Ericka Damp but is surely not worth a MLE (Gooden isn't well worth it either though), anyway I would rather give the MLE to a proven player like Gooden than throw it on a injury prone from easter europe. Now the Magic will have to pay for Gortat's medical bills for the next several years till his multi-year mid-level contract expires, since Gortat isn't covered with the Obamacare or the current care.![]()
Signing someone like Gortat with full MLE is absolutely a bad move even if he is healthy as , presumable that big will turn out to be another Burk or Dolleac.
Damn, a lot of these Euro dudes are getting hurt this summer.
And the players on the top eight teams will all play 9 games in 14 days at the Euro Championships next month.
what's to lolol at? Gortat might have a injury, but from what I hear from Mav fans who think they know everything his was only going to get like 10 minutes behind Howard anyway, so not like it's a big deal, Magic still have Howard and of course Vince who I think will help more then Gortat any day![]()
you're a re .
This isnt that big of a deal, Gortat is overrated anyways. Last year he was some scrub, any1 remember? before he started puting up 5 and 5 numbers..
So he's out a month and will be ready when the season starts... big deal. He'll be back pretending to play basketball because of the nice amount of money he makes right now... Is it just me or does anyone else have the feeling that so few different contracts are being given out?
He backs up dwight, hes not playing much anyways.
One year ago, I had no idea Marcin Gortat existed.
It's a bad injury for the Polish team. I'm sure he'll be okay for the NBA season. And either way, it was dumb for the Mavs to even want to blow their full MLE on someone as unproven as him.
From same source quoted in OP
Gortat Only To Miss Few Days
Poland center Marcin Gortat's back injury is not as serious as his national team coach Muli Katzurin feared it might be.
Gortat got hurt in Friday's friendly against Great Britain and had to be helped off the court.
He returned to Poland to have his back examined where medical tests confirmed he only has a muscular injury that requires a few days rest.
The Orlando Magic big man will not be with the Polish national team during the forthcoming tournament in Bamberg, Germany, from August 20-23 but he should be back for the games against Israel and Spain in Zaragoza on August 25th and 27th.

So should we still be celebrating this injury?
