Seems like the body/parts would be worth a lot more than $3500 to a collector. Somebody should "accidentally" leave the gate open on that lot one night.

Therein lies another problem with "Cash for Clunkers." I'll be very surprised if many of the cars that are required to be crushed ever see the salvage yard. Many will end up back on the street.

Crushing isn't required. Engines are disabled (don't ask me how), so other parts can be salvaged.

Its pretty simple. They dump a solution into the engine that destroys it. I heard it on NPR.

"Maserati" is NOT all that; that particular car was crap the moment it rolled off the line.

The wood and leather are nice, though.

I used to work at an auto recycler a couple years ago here in Southern California. Around 03/04 the state had a vehicle retirement program, similar to the cash for clunkers deal. It was a good money maker for our company. We'd get paid by the state to take gas guzzlers off the street, and after the inspector verified the cars were disabled, and then left, we'd go back and cut the motors and trannys out of the cars if they were any good. Then we'd crush the bodys and make money off the metal too. Back when the price of metal and aluminum was high. Good money maker for a small business.

Thats one of the worst Maserati's ever made and the guy was unable to sell it; I'd do the same. Who cares what badge it has; a POS is a POS. Fail thread.

Yeah, that Maserati was a perfect candidate for C.A.R.S.. It was a piece of that needed to get off the road.
