Jim Carrey should have won for Man on the Moon. I don't know who did win Best Actor that year, but they didn't deserve it.

well that might of been a snub for jim, but i think him in the truman show was a huuuuuuge snub. When i think of great movies i think can another person on the earth play that part and no way people could've pulled off truman show like he did.

On anothe note...VAL in KILMER as DOC HOLLIDAY. R U kidding, i think they gave it to tommy lee jones for fugitive which is a movie i love but val as doc i dont think ive seen a better performance. His comedy, and the dying scene with wyatt at the end, "i dont think i can feel my toes", val wins for most snubbed, just / thread

2002 should have given out 2 Best Actors. While Adrien Brody certainly deserved a nod, Day Lewis as Bill the Butcher was nothing short of brilliant. Add to that the fact that Denzel won the award the year before for his role in Training Day, and it's even MORE upsetting.

I'd say Benjamin Button's mother should've gotten a supporting actress nod.

Taraji P. Henson was nominated. She lost to Penelope Cruz in Vicki Christina Barcelona, which was a very good performance.

There was just recently a poll for this on CNN or something. Year by year it went through who "should have" won. My first and second easily topped the poll:

    1) Ralph Fiennes for "Schindler's List". Travesty. He lost to Jones for "The Fugitive". Someone else mentioned Val Kilmer in "Tombstone" which was the same year. I liked Kilmer's performance but Fiennes in Schindler's list is one of the creepiest/darkest villians ever. There's really no comparison.

    2) "Saving Private Ryan" lost to "Shakespeare in Love". What. A. Freaking. Joke.

    3) Tom Hanks for "Cast Away". I think "Gladiator" is one of the most over-rated movies of all time and Crowe's one-note performance was hardly deserving of an oscar. I thought Crowe SHOULD have won for "A Beautiful Mind" but he lost to Denzel Washington in "Training Day". The Oscars are political and there are LOTS of SNUBS. But these three stick out the most to me.
