ive always liked mason. he used to be a beast on the sonics
I read that Desmond Mason negotations with the Thunder have ended. Since a lot of people have suggested one of our remaining spots could be an established small forward I was wondering how Mason could fit that role.
I haven't seen him play in a while, I know he is athletic and is a decent rebounder for a wing but now I have read in several places that he is a competent defender. If this is true, or not, would the Spurs be interested in him?

Young and atheltic, but injury prone and not too sure about his BB IQ.
Poses the same dilemma as Bowen. Must create a roster spot by cutting/trading one of Finley, Hairston, or Williams. Assuming Mason could be had for the minimum, then replacing Hairston or Williams would add very little to the payroll. Making Finley disappear will be more expensive.
Too old, too short.
He is 31 and can come in for 15 minutes a night and just play D on the other teams best wing. He is more athletic than Udoka and is more offensively capable and younger than Bowen. as long as his asking price is reasonable I would sign him and trade Bonner for cash, or do a sign an trade.
i thought we already had a guy named mason
yeah but Desmond can make his own play and is probably still the better defender
He just torched me on 2K9 ( I was the Griz).
hater bashing Money Mase?![]()
George Hill is athletically a younger version of Des but a better ball handler. That plus, I don't think the Spurs are going to be needing too many defensive stoppers with the fire power they now possess and if they will need that in some games...the combination of Hill, Jefferson and Ginobili at the same time will provide a solid defensive core that can also score.
But I have always liked Des...I just don't see going after him for the talents he possesses when the Spurs will have plenty of that with who they have now.
it all comes down to price
I'd imagine having two guys with the same name on the team would get very confusing.
As if people dont stumble over Ginobili, Mahinmi, and the Haislip/Hairston combo enough.
That settles it then![]()
the guy just left the thunder cause he wouldnt get playing time from them. now he comes here to get minutes ahead of mason, jefferson? nope
I'm pretty sure Hairston or Williams could get 7 points and 4 rebounds if either played 27mpg.
He is a terrible shooter, maybe one of the worst in the NBA.
i still remember when he did that 360 vs the spurs at the end of game 2 in 2002 playoffs when they were blowing us out
but ive always liked this guy hes pretty good but havent heard anything of him for tears i didnt even know he was still in the league
My thoughts exactly.
i agree. hairston>>>>mason. yea mason is a vet but hairston is younger and cheaper and knows our system. thanks but no thanks. with that said lets watch some of his dunks.
He's already said he wants minutes. He doesn't want to come off the bench or be a cheerleader for a team.
His age and health is a big concern.
Desmond > Roger all day, everyday, and this day included.
He's athletic as , if Pop motivates him he could use his athleticism to become a great defender. Plus he could be a threat running the break with Tony...he's not a great 3-point shooter but he makes up for it in other aspects of the game.
YES.
