I wouldn't go as fas as Steeler fans in saying 'good riddance' but it was pretty insensitive that he never even apologized for a hit that ruined somebody's life

Every fanbase has its share of idiots. Most Steeler fans will make no attempt to hide their intense hate of Tatum - that is a given. A few idiots will take that too far, but most of them didn't say anything remotely close to "good riddance" - they merely said that Tatum was dirty etc etc.
IMO even the Pats boards will be saying very similar things, given the Stingley incident.
