EL SEGUNDO — Pau Gasol said he is tentatively planning on making his long-awaited season debut Thursday night vs. Chicago.
Gasol practiced full speed and full court for a stretch in a full 5-on-5 team scrimmage Monday before Phil Jackson pulled him out for the final part of the session. Gasol said his right hamstring “felt different, felt better” than previous workouts and is optimistic that he has turned the corner in his recovery from the Oct. 13 injury.
“Let’s see how tomorrow feels, and if it feels well, I’m probably going to get in another good workout on the floor and do a little more stuff and continue to get ready,” Gasol said. “Then the next day I can practice with the team fully, with no limitations, and then hopefully play on Thursday.”
The game Thursday will be televised only by TNT. If Gasol’s acting timing is as good as this, his appearance on “CSI: Miami” tonight is going to be pretty sharp.
The Lakers have lost their past two games and face Detroit on Tuesday but obviously can use Gasol to help organize the triangle offense thereafter. Gasol talked about how much he has missed playing with his teammates but naturally was most excited about how his hamstring “felt good, felt really good.”
“Very positive day,” Gasol said. “I just hope it will continue.”
But Gasol also said: “I feel pretty confident tomorrow will be another good day.”
