I still remember all the Mav fans calling into Rome the next day and ing about how they got some gay Dirk Diggler instead of a proven big like Traylor.

Yeah on Dallas radio the reaction was like we traded a guaranteed future dynasty for 20 more years of mediocrity.

I was a fan of Tractor Traylor and I didn't like the trade that night, but after seeing videos of Dirk tearing it up at the Nike Hoop Summit, I liked it.

and for what it's worth, Dallas fans who hated on the Dirk/Tractor trade weren't complete idiots. Remember, this is the fanbase that saw Uwe Blab, a ty Detlef Schrempf, Bill Wennington, Cherokee Parks, Loren Meyer, Chris Anstey, and who knows how many other Big White Stiffs run through the franchise being touted as a future star.

At the time, the thinking was that Dirk was yet another big white dude that would suck based on past history.

I forgot about that trade. This is one of the great rip-offs in NBA history. It's right up there with Sam Bowie drafted before Michael Jordan. Look at these stats:

    Robert Traylor:
    7 years (1998-99 through 2004-05): 4.8 ppg, 3.7 rpg, and .7 bpg in 438 career games.

    Dirk Nowitzki:
12 years (1998-99 through present): 22.8 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 2.7 apg, and 1.0 bpg in 850 career games.
