Nowitzki: Little Interest in Free Agency
    By Tim Povtak

MIAMI -- While LeBron James in Cleveland, Chris Bosh in Toronto and even Dwyane Wade in Miami have enjoyed flirting with possibilities that free agency could bring this summer, Dirk Nowitzki sounds more anchored to his current team than any of the other stars.

Nowitzki, the eight-time All-Star in Dallas, can opt out of the final year of his contract, just like the other three may do. Yet the thought of changing teams to chase an NBA le doesn't sound so appealing to him.

"I've always said it wouldn't feel right if I left the Mavericks,'' Nowitzki told FanHouse after his Mavericks crushed the Heat in Miami 106-93 on Friday night. "I've played my heart out in Dallas for 12 years, so going somewhere else doesn't sound good to me. I'm not even sure how a championship would feel somewhere else. I know what it would feel like to do it in Dallas.''

Nowitzki has spent his entire career with the Mavericks. He was traded there on draft night in 1998. His Mavs reached the NBA Finals in 2006, but they lost to the Miami Heat after leading the series 2-0. He said earlier in the day that winning a le is the only thing that would make his career complete.

Nowitzki is scheduled to make $21.5 million next season, but opting out this summer would allow him to sign another long-term contract before the league's collective bargaining agreement expires in the summer of 2011. The new CBA is expected to be more restrictive toward player salaries.

"In this business, you know how it is, but I hadn't planned on opting out,'' he said. "As far as I'm concerned, I want to finish my career in Dallas. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.''

I highly doubt that. He's always said that he could imagine to play for less in order to play with other stars.

Dirk has 100+, he really doesnt care anymore if its 20 or 10 or 15 a year.

And Cuban will give him max all day long, but Dirk wont demand it if Cuban promise to spend it in players.

The Mavs would be nothing without Dirk. If Dirk leaves the Mavs, the Mavs will become a D-League team.

Makes sense. It's a soft seat for him there in Dallas. Lot's of funk & junk. Trace accountability.

    He's ta home.

Cuban never gives a about tax money tbh. His stupidity is honestly ing irritating but I've never doubted his love for his team, i mean literally HIS team. His purse is always wide open for Donnie to spend signing whatever player he wants within league's allowance, but always his signs turn to garbage stocks.
Rogue, do you ever shut the up?

Precisely. He knows he has an easy clean there in Dallas. Nobody is going to ride his white ass for porking the pooch in Florida. Kinda like Stockton is Utah=ringless, but, happier than a pig in .

Hot damn, I would absolutely love for Dirk to join Duncan on the Spurs. I know it will never happen, but it would be sweet. Dirk seems to care about winning, but not to the point that he will do whatever it takes.

If he knew he could not win with the Mavs, he still would not leave. He believes too much in loyalty even though in this business he would be dropped on his ass if he came up lame or injured. Can't blame the guy and it looks like he is in a perfect situation for himself. He can be loyal and contend.
