Only thing I use netflix for is to watch TV shows or movies on XBL.
Yesterday, Netflix announced a new deal with Warner Brothers in which customers will have to wait 28 days before being able to watch new releases, NPR reports. So far it’s just one studio, but it’s pretty much a given that Netflix will make similar deals with the other studios.
Why would they do this? Rentals don’t make the studios very much money. They’re hoping that anyone dying to see new releases will s out the money to buy the DVD (which, naturally, are much more expensive when they’re brand new) or pay to stream them online. I think Netflix also realizes that the business of shipping DVDs to mailboxes won’t last forever, and they’re beefing up their online streaming catalog, as well as their straight-to-your-TV option.
If you’re a Netflix customer, are you upset about the new deal? Personally, I’m okay with it. I have such a long list of movies and TV shows in my queue that I rarely watch new releases right when they come out anyway. Plus, I’ve used Netflix’s streaming option a couple times, and I like it. Plus, I’m glad that Netflix is figuring out how to adapt their business with the changing technology instead of being stubborn and reactionary (ahem, music industry).
As for the studios, I’m doubtful that this new deal will boost ever-declining DVD sales. Still, people are absolutely still going to movie theaters on the weekends (ahem, Avatar and New Moon). When it comes to movie budgets, the studios just can’t count on future DVD sales to make up for costs anymore.

I'd be a little miffed to wait 28 days to watch a new release.
I wonder if Blockbuster.com will start doing the same.
Yea I don't really care about the new releases. I use the streaming pretty much exclusively now to catch up with tv and older movies that have escaped me.
Blake.....some Blockbuster stores have already closed.![]()
I've just newly released some gas.
i think it is a great deal. I use my Roku player to stream most of my Movies and TV shows to my TV, i don't use as many DVDs anymore. I'm excited to get the WB catalogue on watch instantly (thats the future btw, not the disc)
the streaming quality is godawful, one of the reasons i dumped them, along with increased blu-ray fees and never being able to get new blu releases. I went back to downloading 720p rips from newsgroups.
I haven't tried streaming movies yet.
Yea, pretty soon CD's & DVD's will be used as coasters.
I agree when I stream on the tv in my bedroom it isn't great. But I usually just set up my laptop in whatever room I am working in (usually my laundry room) and I can watch a movie and slam out a few loads. It's great.

Megauploadforum.net is pretty much a great place to get movies.
I got a Netflix account to rent a foreign film and then canceled it. I'll run to Blockbuster to get new releases (they rent by the day now) or do pay per view. Lame news though.
I'd be pissed if I was a NetFlix consumer; you're getting a reduction in services with no reduction in the fees you pay.
lol spurstalk users using netflix.
you all know yall some redbox using folks.
Meh, it's kind of lame news but the reality is that the youngest stuff on our Netflix queue has been out for 8 or 9 months.
Does netflix stream movies in HD
I don't buy dvds any more and very seldom go to a movie. the RIAA and MPAA
yes back to basics some are in hd actually a lot. depends on your network bandwidth if it will stream it to you.
dude what are you talking about? they have plenty of hd streams that are awesome quality.
I can deal with 28 days if they stream all studios rather than just a certain few. 28 days isn't that bad because on most new releases you have to wait a little anyway because the demand for the movie is so high
well you are getting the ability to watch Warner Brothers movies instantly. Netflix gets that, and gives the ability to get brand new movies.
they need more anime on streaming
It kind of pisses me off, but it is what it is. I may cancel my subscription. I just want to see how many more they offer on the streaming end. As for people saying their stream being god awful, mine isn't. An occasional movie doesn't look great, but overall quality is good.
I just think this is going to lead to cancelled subscriptions & more piracy issues.
I dont really have a problem with this. I like some of you all don't rarely get new releases. Its just ever so often. I have a lot of older movies in my que that I much rather watch than some new releases.
