Denver's plays familiar to Robinson

San Antonio - Glenn Robinson doesn't have to focus hard to recognize what he is seeing.

Not the players. Plays.

The Spurs small forward knows a lot of what the Nuggets are running on offense because he ran some of it when he played for Nuggets coach George Karl as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks from 1998-2002.

"Especially with Carmelo (Anthony) being the No. 1 offensive guy," Robinson said. "There are a lot of small forward plays, a lot of the pick-and-roll stuff. I know exactly what (Karl) is over there telling those guys.

"I've been there."

Milwaukee went to the playoffs twice with Karl and Robinson. In 2001, the Bucks advanced to the Eastern Conference finals before losing to Philadelphia in seven games.

"Being the eighth seed once and being the seventh seed once (in my career), playing the No. 1 or No. 2 seed, you're the underdog, nobody thinks that you can do it," Robinson said. "That's the situation that pumps him up, that he loves to be in."

Defensively, Robinson doesn't see as many similarities.

Milwaukee was a perimeter-oriented team, one that didn't have the athletes in the frontcourt that this season's Nuggets boast.

"We did more double-teaming in the post," Robinson said. "We did more trapping and kind of disrupting the offense, things like that. I haven't seen that yet (from the Nuggets), but I'm looking for that to come along as the series goes on."

Injury update

Coach Gregg Popovich said he does not expect center Rasho Nesterovic (ankle) or guard Devin Brown (back) to play Wednesday in Game 2. Before Game 1, Nesterovic had the OK from trainers to play if necessary, but wasn't used. Popovich ruled out Brown for Game 2 in a meeting with the media before Game 1. The official word from the Spurs is both players are doubtful.
