Top NBA Lottery Prospects

Just over here thinking that the Rockets are doing what they can with what they have, and now that it seems a McGrady deal is nowhere close to happening, and they won't make one just to make one, I'm trying to take a look at who they might get in the lottery shall they fail to make the playoffs. Not a bad situation really.

1) John Wall
NBA Comparison - Derrick Rose
Analysis: Wall is an incredibly athletic, explosive point guard with good size for his position, a quick first step and a knack for getting in the lane and finishing at the rim. In short, he’s a lot like Derrick Rose. He’s likely to be a top five selection and has a very good chance of being the top overall selection with a good season under John Calipari, who also coached Rose


2) Derrick Favors
NBA Comparison - Amare Stoudamire
Analysis: Favors is a long, athletic big man with good size and explosiveness for his position. He knows how to attack the rim and is a powerful finisher. He’s still relatively raw offensively, but has incredible upside as he continues to mature. He’s also a good kid, a natural leader, and someone that could be the face of an NBA franchise one day. The comparisons to Stoudemire are legitimate


3) Greg Monroe
NBA Comparison - Chris Webber
Analysis: As far as natural ability and overall game, there’s few in this class that can compare with Monroe. He already has an NBA-ready body with a long wingspan and an excellent basketball IQ. He’s also a terrific athlete for his position, can handle the ball and is an excellent passer from the post. Some believe he could have been a top five pick had he declared in 2009


4) Evan Turner
NBA Comparison - Joe Johnson
Analysis: Turner is one of the fastest risers in this class. He came on strong last season due to his incredible all-around offensive ability combined with his size and versatility. He’s a good athlete, an excellent ball handler and a lock-down defender. He’s also terrific at getting into the lane, drawing contact and converting at the charity stripe.


5) Wesley Johnson
NBA Comparison - Joe Johnson
Likely the fastest riser of any draft prospect in this 2009-2010 NCAA season thus far, Wesley Johnson is already looking like a genius for deciding to transfer from Iowa State to Syracuse. He put himself on the map very early on with two outstanding games in the Preseason NIT in Madison Square Garden against Cal and North Carolina, and has continued his strong play into the Big East conference as well so far with outings like a 20 point, 19 rebound performance in a road win over Seton Hall.



6) DeMarcus Cousins
NBA Comparison - Al Horford
Analysis: Cousins already has a solid body with a huge wingspan and good athleticism. He’s very skilled offensively, with good footwork, soft hands, and range that extends all the way out to the three-point line. He can dominate when he wants, but has a low-running motor, isn’t always in shape and doesn’t always play to his capabilities. He can prove his doubters wrong with a solid year at Kentucky.


7) DONTATAS MOTIEJUNAS
NBA Comparison - Dirk Nowitzki/Pau Gasol
Analysis: League scouts and GMs are always looking for the next Dirk Nowitzki, and Motiejunas is the latest in a long line of candidates. He’s an excellent scorer from just about anywhere on the court, but especially around the basket and from mid-range. He has a high basketball IQ, flies up and down the court in transition and is getting valuable experience for Zalgiris Kaunas in the Euroleague


8) Xavier Henry
NBA Comparison - Corey Maggette
Analysis: Henry may not put up huge numbers on a loaded Kansas squad, but he has as much upside as any two-guard in this class. He has good size for his position and a physically build body, along with an absolutely deadly three point jumper. Through he’s a strong finisher at the rim; he sometimes settles too much for the jumper and needs to improve his aggressiveness



9) Willie Warren
NBA Comparison - Rodney Stuckey
Analysis: Warren is probably a top five player in this class, but scouts are torn over what position he’ll play in the NBA. He has good size as a point guard, but is much more of a scorer. He’s an explosive athlete with good speed and quickness, and an excellent stroke from three-point range. If he can successfully make the transition to the point, he’ll likely go top five


10) Ed Davis
NBA Comparison - Samuel Dalembert ( ty comparison, not done by me)
Analysis: Davis is an active, energetic big man with a good motor and tremendous size and length for the power forward position. Defensively, he’s one of the best in the class. He attacks the glass with aggression and is an intimidating shot blocker in the middle. Once he learns the nuances of the game and matures physically, he’ll be a very hot commodity among league scouts and GMs.

Those comparisons were great for a laugh, little else. Loved the Ed Davis/Samuel Dalembert comparison. I wonder if the writer has seen either play.
