If you missed it, the compe ors for this year’s H.O.R.S.E. event at All-Star Weekend were leaked late yesterday afternoon. A few weeks ago, I gave my dream field. Suffice it to say that none of them were chosen.

The real field, via Ball Don’t Lie: defending champion Kevin Durant, Kings rookie Omri Casspi, and Celtics All-Star Rajon Rondo.

Durant should be there if only to defend his le, but his performance in ’09 was marred by shooting too many threes—he essentially engaged O.J. Mayo and Joe Johnson in a shooting compe ion rather than a bizarre display of trick shots.

Casspi could have some good moves—anyone who grew up reading from right to left is bound to look at a basketball court differently from an American—but it’s also easy to imagine him engaging Durant in the aforementioned three-point contest.

Rondo is one of brightest young stars in the league, but pretty much the only thing he can’t do on a basketball court is shoot. Expect him to get knocked out early.

At the risk of being entirely predictable, I must complain about the lack of Monta Ellis. It’s no secret that I think he should be in there—I’d even go as far as to say that he was the only no-brainer among this year’s potential participants.

So what gives, NBA? Is it only a matter of punishing the Warriors? Are you worried that Monta will so thoroughly decimate the compe ion that it’ll be over in five minutes? Does he have too many tattoos? I await an explanation.

Rondo will get pwned by the jumpshot unless Stern somehow manages to ban jump shooting.

Agree Monta Ellis would have been a better choice than either Rondo or Casspi, but perhaps they chose guys who were already going to Dallas for all star weekend. Rondo's in the ASG and I imagine Casspi is in the rookie challenge.

This was a $$$ saving move by the NBA. All they did was pick guys who were already coming to All Star Weekend. That's why Monta wasn't invited. They didn't want to pay for him to make the trip to Dallas to play 1 game of HORSE.
