Just filed to ESPN.com: Spurs agree to release former All-Star and Stein Line fave Michael Finley so Fin can sign elsewhere before playoffs

Sources: Spurs to release Finley
By Marc Stein
ESPN.com
The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to release former All-Star guard Michael Finley later Monday to allow Finley to pursue opportunities with other teams, according to sources close to the situation.
Finley was a key member of San Antonio's 2007 championship team after leaving the Spurs' longtime rivals in Dallas but has struggled to earn playing time this season from coach Gregg Popovich.
As long as the Spurs waive the 36-year-old before midnight Monday, Finley will be eligible to play in the playoffs for another team.

finally
There goes one of Fabbs's talking points.
Wait?! Is this true?!..don't toy with my emotions please..
hahaha. pop with the slap on all you haters.
I need to see a non-twitter source before I'll believe this ish.
Definitely plastered all over Stein's page though.
If this is true, I wish Fin the best..class act, good contributor to our 2007 le, made some clutch shots, apparently helped the youth out a lot according to Hairston and Williams(when he was here)..his time in the NBA should be over, but I hope he finds a team to sign him if he's still interested in playing..
Pop might have seen the light after all..
stein is pretty reliable... i believe this... the way finley was sprawled out on the bench last game... i have a feeling he knew this was coming already.
Go away. you're living in a fantasy world.
Weird turn of events. I wonder if Finley was pouting about playing time.
He seemed to really enjoy being with this team, and always seemed like the consummate professional. Really didn't see this one coming.

I can also confirm independently from my sources that this is true. The issue seems to be playing time.
I wonder if he will end up in Dallas...
If this is true, perhaps this indicates Pop is committed to giving Hairston some much needed time. However does this provide us some insight on how Pop is viewing the rest of this season?
I wouldn't get too overly excited here. Pop is just tossing out the old Finley in order to bring in the new Finley (Bogawns).
doubt he was ing about it, but the spurs and pop probably sat him down after the houston game and said that there going to go try to do this thing without him and gave him the choice of riding the pine or taking his chances elsewhere.
Also, do the Spurs save tax money with this move?
I know it's a business of "what have you done for me lately", but Finley has been a class act during his time in San Antonio. I'm glad we were able to get him a ring and not the Mavericks. I know his time in San Antonio came to a sort of ugly end, but he was a true Spur.
yep.to Findog
If only Bogans would ask for the same treatment...
