RJ worth will be at its max when the trade deadline nears... and not right now. Hill is being talked about because right now he is our best trade asset that we can give up and his stock has never been higher.
It's been clear that RJ lacked whatever we wanted from him this whole season. I'm going to admit, I'm a huge fan of Rudy Fernandez and if he could come play for the Spurs as our SF, he can be that consistent shooter we've been looking for all along. Make it happen, spurs!

I really don't get why people want to move George. Just because we have something valuable doesn't mean we have to get rid of it. HOW BOUT WE USE HIM!? DOESN'T THAT MAKE MORE SENSE?
Okay... for those of you who don't get why we won't be trading Richard Jefferson, let's put it another way:
Gas is now $6 per gallon. You have a mint condition Hummer that was supposed to get 12 miles per gallon, but the best you ever got was 10 mpg. It's got 4 wheel drive, but you never go off-road. You're thinking about trading it for something else.
Technically, your Hummer is worth $50K. You can trade it for another $50K car, but none of the ones available get any better mileage than the one you already have, and they aren't as well taken care of.
The only other trade offer you get is for a '96 Camry. It got about 25 mpg back in the day, but you know it's not that good anymore - you're just not sure how much it's declined. It's only worth about $8K. The owner can't pay you the difference in cash, so you would have to agree to take Enron stock for the balance.
After carefully considering all your options, you decide to stand pat with your Hummer. At least it still looks good in your driveway. And besides, that 4WD is nice, even if you probably won't ever use it.
Small forward?Rudy Fernandez is skinny as , he's a sg he's not that good either. We should try and get Travis Outlaw an ideal small ball 4. That way if Splitter doesn't come over we can get a big guy in the draft like that Soloman Alabi or whatever his name is.
Spurs absolutely have to move RJ imo. I don't really care for what.
RJ needs to have a good year if he wants another decent contract from any team.
He plays like he did this year no body will front big money for him.
So it is worth him putting in the time and effort over the off season to make sure he has a big year.
i have compiled a list off the top of my head that teams should be willing to trade for jefferson's expiring contract near the deadline:
elton brand
emeka okafor
james posey
hedo turkoglu (lol)
rashard lewis
gilbert arenas
baron davis
rip hamilton/ben gordon
not a very good selection of players.
wow, only very bad contracts here.
With that kind of talent and contracts, we might as well hang on to RJ. I think he will be playing better in his 2nd year than any of these guys.
Side note: I always liked Rip. I wonder how much he has left in the tank? Be a nice guy off the bench...
The Spurs should probably just hang onto Richard Jefferson, at least until the trade deadline. If he's playing the type of basketball that makes him worth his bloated salary (unlikely, but a fan can hope), then you hold onto him until season's end and see what's what in the offseason negotiating a new contract.
If he's not playing the type of basketball that they expect from him, and there are offers from teams that are desperate to take on his expiring contract (and can offer up some nice compensation), you pull the trigger on that.
The reason you don't trade Jefferson now is that he's only valuable to teams that are looking for a guy to sop up minutes at SF. However, once the trade deadline nears, he'll be valuable to any team looking to shed salary for when his contract comes off the books. Potential playoff teams fall off every season, like the Wizards did this year, and they'll freely give up talent in an effort to start rebuilding. That's when a team like the Spurs with a nice expiring contract can swoop in and acquire some talent and depth.
If RJ let the spurs know in advance that he would opt out of his contract for the final year (I realize it is highly unlikely), would the spurs have the option to move him prior to that specefic date? Moving a player in a final year of there contract is one thing but moving somone with only days left in that contract would be even better.
no way someone would take rj before the deadline, 15 mil for what was it 12 points 4 reb a night? he won't become valuable til teams see the word "expiring" and try to dump salary.
Guess you didnt read my post..My question is strictly if he makes it known that he will opt out..
