No superstar athlete left behind was enacted long before no child left behind.
So I record as many games as possible to my DVR and then move it to DVD. Time and again, a great dunk or block happens and what does Sean say?
He always says," Insert name here-went [b]top-shelf[/] for that play!"
e.g. DeJuan Blair went top-shelf on that putback.
Sean needs more words to describe these plays.
What say you?

Doesn't bother me. I love watching the game with Sean. It's cool to have an ex-Spur doing commentary![]()
Being out of market, I've seen one, maybe two games with the Spurs' feed.
Open mouth, insert ball (or some such).
Don't get me wrong guys. Meeting Sean Elliott on the courts at the U of A is the reason I became a hard core Spurs Fan once he was drafted by them. I like the team of him and Bill Land. I just want him to give us some other terminology and feel we can help the brother out. He can reserve Top-Shelf for something special or he can come up with something better.
Out here in San Diego, when a Padre makes a great, great play...announcer Jerry Coleman use,"You can hang a star on that one!" Something like that.
I get your meaning and know you're not dissing him, but I love hearing Sean and Bill Land call games. I, also love the fact that Sean doesn't suffer fools, like Jason Terry, very well. It's a joy hearing him go off on them. He also looks like he's having a blast
It doesn't bother me, honestly. With Tiago on the team now, I look forward to another over-used comment that fell out of rotation while our frontcourt defense declined: "Manu and Jefferson funneled Chris Paul into the paint and right into the torture chamber for the block!"
I love his commentating. I don't think he needs any help. :P
no ...don't watch the games then or watch them with the volume off.
Sean is the biggest Spurs homer and I love watching him for it!
Maybe when Sean was a kid, his mom, Odiemae, literally kept the dictionary on the Top Shelf.
Seriously, though, Sean is not without his flaws...and we all can stand to make improvements, but he is the best analyst the Spurs have ever had and I am always disappointed when he isn't there on certain nights. There have been many games when there is a national broadcst and
a local broadcast, I will DVR the national broadcast and watch the local because I love to hear the "Sean-isms".
Having Sean calling a Spurs game vs. ANY TNT commentator (see jvg) is a no-brainer...
That's just one of his lines, and I love him for it. I love his random nicknames for people more, and when he makes fun of players like the hobbit on the mavs.![]()
Sean has no need to change. He is great. The only thing that would be better than is if Barry could come in and do a game with sean every now and then.
Sean Elliott is great.
I laugh every time he says Top Shelf.
Good analysts are like wine. They age well. He'll smooth out the rough edges as time moves on.
"Spread that on some bread, that's chicken salad!"
My favorite Seanism
Sean is the best TV color guy out there. He's hilarious. He usually reserves "top shelf" for when someone like Bruce Bowen or Matt Bonnner dunks it. I love the fact that he is self-deprecating, humble and a total Spurs homer. I'll take "top shelf" over "whoa mama" any day. I'm always bummed when Fox Sports doesn't carry a game and I have to listen to some dip like Jon Barry or Bill Walton do color. Sean's totally top shelf in my book.
More Sean-isms please.
He's saying "it's a recipe for disaster" again and again and again...![]()
I like Sean because even though he is a homer, he will get pissed at players on the Spurs if they are not playing well. He will call them out.
EXACTAMUNDO!!![]()
it's always about food with Sean.
all you can eat buffet
makin chicken salad
etc
I like "He needs to be taken behind the woodshed" and "Timmy was tryin to be Magic Johnson, but he ended up lookin like Tragic Johnson"
"Tim is putting (so and so) in the torture chamber!"
"Tim Duncan has such soft hands."
Sean's got a bunch of weird ones.
