Do you think Mooch will have a quick hook with Harrington in favor of Garcia?
Here are my picks for the end of the season awards and sleeper studs....very premature I know, but even in the offseason my dreams are filled with smash hits and touchdown dances. I'll give you my pick for each award and then a sleeper or a darkhorse that could quite possibly steal the award.
MVP: Peyton Manning-was at times unstoppable last year and seems to be getting better. There is no reason to believe he cannot reproduce or come close to the numbers last year.
Sleeper MVP: Daunte Culpepper-his monsterous season was overlooked by many since Manning was racking up numbers. Culpepper even managed superior games when Moss went down to injury. If Daunte can manage to do the same this year, and keep his team in playoff contention without Randy...he could definately steal some votes.
OPOY: Shaun Alexander-What can I say...he's an absolute stat sheet monster. Came 1 yard short of leading the league in rushing yards. He is also second to only Priest Holmes in TD's scored the past 3 years. Fantasy geeks....here is your franchise player.
Sleeper OPOY: Willis McGahee-Came on strong mid-season and was the main reason Buffalo managed some success down the road. He shut up all the doubters that overlooked drafting him in the first round. Should be able to walk into the Pro Bowl this year.
DPOY: Ray Lewis-No surprise here...he is consistantly in the running for this award as well as MVP (in some voter's minds). He is the heart and sole of the Ravens and the foundation for what they accomplish on the defensive side of the ball.
Sleeper DPOY: Patrick Kerny-The main reason why Atlanta's 3-4 scheme is effective. He is a ball hawk who always delivers when called upon. If Atlanta's defense holds up like last year (no reason why it shouldn't)...he could definately steal some votes.
OROY: This is a tough choice considering we don't know who is going to get drafted by whom. So taking what I know....receivers usually don't make as big of an impact their first year and both of the top QB's will probably go to some weak ass teams like San Fran or Cleveland...I'll pick a RB, as it is one of the easiest positions to be successful at the pro level....so I'll take Ronnie Brown from Auburn. Easily the most talented of the big three. Has terrific speed, strength, great hands out of the backfield, and is not just a "north-south" runner like Carnell Williams and Benson seem to be.
Sleeper OROY: Cedrick Benson- That's right another RB. Sorry, this class has some damn good ones. He is a Ricky Williams clone who is a strong and punishing runner. While he is not deceptively fast like his other draft mates...he has the strength to bull you over for the extra yards. Could easily put up 1,000 to 1,500 yards this year behind the right offensive line.
DROY: Derrick Johnson-Could easily be labeled as the most all-around talented player in the draft this year. He has great speed and is a terrific tackler who always seems to be where the ball carrier is at. His only weakness is that he tends to let himself get held up at the line on occasion. Johnson will be an immediate impact player for any teams defense.
Sleeper DROY: Shawn Marriman-This guy is an absolute beast. With many teams switching to the 3-4 scheme, he is the perfect fit. Shawn has the ability and athleticism to switch back and forth between the DE and OLB positions with ease. Could have a very productive year in a quality team that already has some good veterans surrounding him, like Dallas.
Comeback/Most Improved Player: Here are my "homer" picks....sorry had to have 'em. Joey Harrington-Was an overall #3 pick in his draft class. While he has shown some signs of brilliance in the pocket, he has been plagued with inconsistancy, confidence problems, and just flat out not being able to win. With a franchise RB in Kevin Jones, stud receiver in Roy Williams, and a finally healthy Charles Rogers, Harrington could enjoy a breakout season similar to Drew Brees....on paper this offense looks like St. Louis Light (the Kurt Warner years)
Sleeper Comback: Charles Rogers-enjoyed a brief, but exciting 5 weeks in his rookie season before breaking his collarbone. Then after not having surgery to correct his problem, spent all last season on the IR with the same injury. Now he's back and healthy (supposedly) and with Jones in the backfield and Roy Williams on the other side....WHO YA GONNA COVER!!! Could blow up this year and remind everyone why the Lions nabbed him with their #2 overall pick.
Do you think Mooch will have a quick hook with Harrington in favor of Garcia?
Yes I do....if Harrington doesn't produce in say the first 3-4 weeks, then Garcia starts the rest of the year. That said, I believe Harrington has the talent to succeed. A lot of his inconsistancy issues can be attributed the wide reciever play. Over the past two years the Lions have led the league in dropped passes...not to mention that their running game was non-existant up untill last year. So with two game-breaking receivers and an up-coming star in Kevin Jones, there should be no reason for failure from Joey....Let's see, as this could be a very interesting year for the Lions.
Don't you mean a waste of a #3 pick overall?Comeback/Most Improved Player: Here are my "homer" picks....sorry had to have 'em. Joey Harrington-Was an overall #3 pick
Where???? In Arena football?I believe Harrington has the talent to succeed.
bashing Harrington...I'm telling my mom! He's got more playmakers around him now to succeed...and if not, bring on Garcia! In fact, I wouldn't even be opposed to Joey backing up "I'm not feeling very crisp" Garcia.
Are you so blind as to not see the potential that the Lions offense has this year
MVP: Priest Holmes RB Kansas City Chiefs
Sleeper MVP: Cedric Benson RB Chicago Bears
OPOY: Priest Holmes RB Kansas City Chiefs
Sleeper OPOY: Roy Williams WR Detroit Lions
DPOY: Shaun Rogers DT Detroit Lions
Sleeper DPOY: Quentin Jammer CB San Diego Chargers
OROY: Cedric Benson RB Chicago Bears
Sleeper OROY: Bo Scaife TE Tennesse ans
DROY: Derrick Johnson LB Kansas City Chiefs
Sleeper DROY: Phillip Gieggar S Free Agent
Comeback/Most Improved Player: Cory Redding DE Detroit Lions
Sleeper Improved : B.J. Johnson WR Denver Broncos
some interesting picks there my friend....might you be oh I don't know...a UT fan?! Trust me....as a devout and rabid lions fan...Cory Redding will come nowhere near that....but I love the fact that you give some love to S. Rogers and Roy Williams.
Yeah!, it worked for Cleveland AND SF!He's got more playmakers around him now to succeed...and if not, bring on Garcia

Actually, Garcia was a 3 time pro-bowler and got the 49'ers to the playoffs....Cleveland is a different story...as you are only as good as the talent around you.
cory redding is reggie white waiting to happen, give him 16 healthy games and start counting up the sacks and TFLs
Well....I guess I hope you're right.
UT Players are more like "KiJana Carter/Steve Etman/Ryan Leaf" waiting to happen.
Now who is looking in the rearview mirror & speaking of history? Be realistic for once, just once!Actually, Garcia was a 3 time pro-bowler and got the 49'ers to the playoffs
Dream on cubbie, dream on.
Mr. Dio....my statement about Garcia's former success under Mariucci, actually pertains to the subject (unlike other people's comments about Super Bowl wins almost ten years ago). Meaning that he actually has done something under the Lion's current head coach...Also that he posseses the skills to do something with the talent around him if Harrington should fail yet again.
You said, "Yeah, and it worked for Cleveland and SF!"....I proved you wrong by showing that he did work out in San Fran.
Now you are just reaching for things......nice try though.
Jones, Willaims X2, Rogers, and either Harrington or Garcia, the Lions will own you guys. We own all, we are going 16-0. Pats got nothing on us. The Lions history is a fluke, we will show you.
as opposed to guys like Roger Vick, Rod Bernstine and Quinton Coryatt.UT Players are more like "KiJana Carter/Steve Etman/Ryan Leaf" waiting to happen.
I've got a hunch that Priest Holmes will come back with a monster season in 2005. If the Chiefs get back to the top of the AFC West (a possibility at least) he'll have a nice run at both MVP and OPOY.
I like the Kearney idea as a DPOY candidate. He truly turned the corner for ATL last year and made that defense the reason they reached the NFC Championship game. Vick is good and does some amazing thing, but that team won with defense for most of last season.
I think I'm changing my mind on Kerny and leaning towards Julius Peppers as DPOY...if he duplicates the things he was doing on the field late in the season last year....The Panthers will make some noise next year.
Here's my crack at it:
MVP: Daunte Culpepper QB Minnesota Vikings - I can't stand the guy, but I think the Vikes win their division easily, Culpepper has another great year, and he gets to enjoy the spoils of the Randy Moss trade
Sleeper MVP: Drew Brees, QB San Diego Chargers - Silences those wondering if he is a one-year wonder with another standout season and division le
OPOY: LaDanian Tomlinson RB San Diego Chargers
Sleeper OPOY: Tiki Barber RB New York Giants
DPOY: Ed Reed, S Baltimore Ravens
Sleeper DPOY: Dwight Freeney, DE Indiapolis Colts - If the Colts D can improve, he will get (even more) recognition
OROY: Ronnie Brown, RB Miami Dolphins
Sleeper OROY: Mike Williams, WR Detriot Lions - If Charles Rogers goes down again, like I expect, I think Williams could make a huge splash - even if he has to compete for balls with Roy Williams and Kevin Jones
DROY: Derrick Johnson, LB Kansas City Chiefs - If someone in the Chiefs program can teach him how to tackle
Sleeper DROY: DeMarcus Ware, LB Dallas Cowboys
Comeback/Most Improved Player: Steve Smith, WR Carolina Panthers
Sleeper Improved : Trent Dilfer, QB Cleveland Browns
Not bad Scott....although C-Rog isn't going down again, and I don't think DeMarcus Ware is gonna be as big of an impact as Cowboy fans hope....outside of Jevon Kearse, when was the last time a DE/LB "tweener" made a huge splash in the NFL?
I think Ware is going to have a HUGE impact.
And Rogers better not get hurt this year...he messed up my fantasy drafts the last two years!![]()
I feel you on the fantasy front....He was supposed to be my number two...although I looked like a genius when I nabbed Kevin Jones and Roy Williams in the last two rounds.
Terrell Suggs comes to mind.
alright...good one there. I think he was a little better than DeMarcus though, even at college. He also has the benefit of playing next to Ray Lewis.
MVP: Shaun Alexander, SEA
Sleeper MVP: Donovan McNabb, PHI
OPOY: Peyton Manning, IND
Sleeper OPOY: Corey Dillon, NE
DPOY: Ed Reed, BAL
Sleeper DPOY: James Farrior, PIT
OROY: Heath Miller, PIT
Sleeper OROY: Terrance Murphy, GB
DROY: David Pollack, CIN
Sleeper DROY: Fabian Washington, OAK
Comeback/Most Improved Player: Jeff Garcia, DET
Sleeper Comeback/Most Improved Player : Kurt Warner, ARI
