Tax increases were inevitable. I'm sure Obama and the dems are wishing Volcker would have kept his mouth shut until sometime after November though.............

Tax increases weren't inevitable. They could cut spending and stop the insane monetary free-for-all.

Obama & Co have no interest in cutting spending. Since they're the ones calling the shots, that makes tax increases inevitable.

Two more reasons why tax increases are inevitable are social security and medicare. Doesn't matter what political team they're on, the geezers are going to make damn sure that it's the younger generations carrying the brunt of the load to keep those programs afloat.

    Apparently, there were.

I cannot believe Democrats, particularly, would have picked Obama over Hillary Clinton if they'd of thought otherwise.

The necessity of raising taxes and cutting spending would be there regardless of who won in 2008. There's no other way to eliminate debt/deficit. Pretending there is delusional.

Now, you're calling candidate Obama delusional?

Both sides are delusional because both sides are only interested in one half of the solution. WH is right, it's going to take the combination of tax hikes and spending cuts to dig ourselves out. Neither of our two parties accepts that.

Sure. Anyone who tells you taxes don't need to go up (and services don't need to be cut) is delusional. That definition would also seem to include you.

It takes spending cuts, and can be done without raising taxes.

Stop the war on poverty. For 40 years now, we have not really changed the poverty rate. Time to stop spending money there.

That sounds nice and all, but given current defecits we'd basically be looking at having to cut the budget in half. There's no way to accomplish that without touching things like defense, homeland security, and other expenditures that conservatives support.

That doesn't even include SS&M which the older generations of both parties want no part of bringing back into sustainability solely through spending cuts.

letting dubya's tax cuts on the super wealthy expire so they pay a little closer (not the same) as what the middle classes pay is not really raising taxes.

That's how the wealthy are financing their useful-idiot dupes to phrase it.

    Estate tax cuts = $800B

Other tax cuts for wealthy = $500B

Fund managers pay 15% on their $B incomes, not the earned income rate.

Tax capital gains the same as earned income.

    deficit fixed.

How much would ceasing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan help us save? What else could we do to solve this crisis? I'm all for stopping en lement programs for people that can be fixed and put back to work, how do we go about fixing stuff like that?

Also, why are people that didn't even vote for Obama, or like him, complaining whenever he goes back on a campaign promise? He didn't promise you , plus he's a Democrat so he's just doing his part to fit the mold.

But raising taxes will just slow the economy, and reduce future revenues to the government. Big future hit just for a small short term gain.

Not much in the scheme of things. Current operations is adding only a few extra percent to what peacetime operations are.

Not just higher taxes, but considerably higher taxes. Or budget cuts, or both.

    We're in deep trouble.

I can say exactly what they did wrong, dumbass.

They started an unnecessary war and ran up the debt.

    You're an idiot.

Not everyone shares that opinion, and you know it. Never been resolved, so to state it as fact is moronic.
