I'm looking at taking a cruise out of Galveston in July rather than my yearly Vegas trip. I'm thinking only Carnival leaves from that port but who knows. My question is what kind of room have you people stayed in? Are the ocean view rooms worth it or am I better off in a balcony room? How bad are the interior cabins? Also, aside from the Carnival website or Expedia, where else could I get a decent deal from that's reliable?

I'm not exactly an expert since I've only been on 1 cruise. But FWIW, the wife and I got a balcony room and we absolutely loved having it. We loved being able to start and end our days with a beverage lounging on the balcony.

I think Carnival, and Royal Caribbean are the only two Cruise Lines that leave out of Galveston, now. I just got back from a Western Caribbean Cruise on the Carnival Conquest. I have previously cruised with Princess & Royal Caribbean out of Galveston. All three times I have had a balcony, which to me is just a little perk that I treat myself too. Nothing like having coffee and pastries in the morning on your deck, or watching the sun go down with a nice glass of wine in the evening. An inside cabin to me, would be much too confining and claustrophobic, but that's just me.

My favorite cruise was definitely the last one on the Carnival Conquest. I got a last minute deal on a state room, for the same price as a room with a balcony. Our balcony was huge, and the state room was very roomy.

    Bonn Voyage!!!

I did that one too. Great ship and great cruise. 24hr pizza and ice cream beside the hot tub ftw.

rooms dont matter cuz you'll barely be in it.

Carnival cruises, imo, are more for the fun, young adult peeps while royal carribean are more for the older, maturere crowd....that latter being cleaner etc. well thats what i experienced here in LA.

I sailed on the Conquest as well. Not bad at all, though I had an inside room.

The woman and I are taking a Eastern Caribbean Princess cruise out of New York this summer for our honeymoon. Can't wait, because cruises are so much fun and I've never been to New York before. We're getting a suite this time though with a balcony.

my advice is to not go on a cruise, go to vegas. Vegas doesn't stand a chance of being sunk or attacked by Pirates

    Neither does a Caribbean cruise.

I think I am going on the same cruise that Marini did, we just booked yesterday to go on Carnival out of Galveston, it stops in Progresso and Cozumel. It will be my first cruise and I am really excited. I haven't had a proper vacation in years so this will be a big treat.

One of the people going has been on a cruise before and says to take bottled water with you because it's really expensive to buy. Our deal includes tea and juice and meals, but water, sodas and alcohol are not included. All these things get charged to a card, and the total is charged to your credit card at the end. In order to keep track and not go overboard, I think I will be buying a pre-paid card so there are no huge surprises when I leave.

I don't know if this is the way it is on all cruise lines, but the one we are going on, those are apparently the rules.

If you go on the Carnival Conquest, you will love the sushi bar on the same deck as the casino, Mel. It starts at 5 P.M. I believe, and is made fresh while you watch & wait.

Also know you are allowed to bring your own water on board with you, as well as I believe, a fifth of wine or champagne to celebrate the sail away. I brought a half gallon of gin, and put it in my water bottles.

You can check your balance everyday on your TV set or go down to the courtesy desk. Drinks do get a little pricey, but they have a special drink of the day, and "early bird" specials until noon. I'm not a big gambler, so that wasn't a problem, and when I did gamble on those stupid "bulldozer quarter" machines , I used my own cash.

I've never been to Progresso, it looks fun, especially the old craft market. I went to Jamaica this time, and while on the buss to Rose Hall, I saw an awesome huge craft market, that I would have loved to stop at, but noooo we had to go to some ty expensive souvenir shopping center. And if I ever go on another cruise, I will never ever get off the ship at Grand Cayman Isle. ever again. What a crock of bull 4 star Hotels , resorts, shops, & restaurants. My B.F.F. said she would love to retire there! WTF??? Not me, give me a quaint non-touristy town, and let me blend in with the locals.

Is that included in the price of the cruise, or do you get nickel and dimed there like with the booze? If it's included, that would be pretty sweet, as there's nothing better than sushi-grade salmon, octopus, salmon roe rolls, unagi, geoduck, and yellowtail served cold.

Maybe we didn't go to your side. I did go to and back, turtle farm, and some rum store. Big whoop! I think I just wanted to get back on the ship and sit on my fine ass balcony and drink my stowed-away gin!!!

I went out of Galveston and I believe the only cruise company that makes port there is Carnival. Took my wife out on one for our honeymoon. Carnival Ecstacy is a great ship. Also gave me my daughter. HAHAHA!

I checked the dates of our reservation and it looks like we are going on the Ecstasy. It seems pretty cool, but how the do you put a golf course on a cruise ship? Crazy!

And I never thought about filling water bottles with booze. We might just have to do that. Of course one of my friends going says you never have to pay for a drink as long as you are willing to hang out at the pool and flirt.

Damn, I bet that table fills up fast. I know I'd be there until it closed every day (you can never fill up on sushi).

Lol, it wasn't a table. It's a bar! They hand you your 3 rolls, you grab your chopsticks, wasabi, soy sauce, other condiments and go sit down at a cozy table with your beverage of choice that you either ordered and paid for, or smuggled on the ship, and pretend to eat it all genteel and !!!

And there ain't no way I'm flirting for free drinks, on a floating " resort no- tell motel". You can run, but you can't hide. Dude's eventually demand paybacks of some sort!!! that !!!

just pick a ing island, buy a ing plane ticket and stay in a ing hotel

actually help your destination country's economy instead of being another john for the cruise ship's pimping
Ha! Cruise ship cost is approx. $100. - $128.00 a night. Including great food 24/7, private & comfy rooms, entertainment, art shows, classes, swimming pool/hot tubs, exercise rooms, spas, virtual golf, tennis, basketball, soccer, live music, casino, chance to visit at least 3 different locations, etc., etc., etc.!

I've only cruise DCL plan on trying RCCL out of NJ one day when I don't have cruises booked have 5 booked right now all DCL, but for any cruise line I've heard the same thing, that you are never in the stateroom much, so if I was you I would book interior. We actually always try to book interior, but we seem to get upgraded everytime, next cruise we are actually hoping we don't get upgraded, but really on most cruises you are only in the room to sleep. For good deals you can find some at costco, travel zoo, etc
