I like Hill's mentality about the playoff seedings. He basically say that he doesn't care, he's going to play with the same intensity no matter the opponent. I think Pop's reasoning for mentioning avoiding the lakers so often is to get the attention of the guys like Hill, and Duncan who seem to share the "we're not running from anybody no matter what Pop says" mentality. And they both also address it in the same calm, self-assured manner.
And no, I don't think Pop is lying about our chances against LAL, just that he seems to be unusually, and frequently, open about saying that we are avoiding them.
