if you constantly let him know how a team is playing him that puts him in a very nice comfort zone. you can commit to doubling more or less but it is still healthy to change up a defense on a player to try and keep him on an even keel
Either double up---OR leave him one on one---
BUT NOT BOTH
I say the spurs should decide BEFOREHAND---and then live with the results.
This bull of defending him one way for a half....then if he is hot...change up the D---allowing him to rest and just pass out of a double team---
and on top of that---going to a hack-a-whatever---is just pure pussy bull .
we are playing right into his hands...
all he has to do is read the defense and adjust.
What if we COMMITTED one on one all game long---48 minutes...
let him get 50 points---but NO-ONE ELSE WILL BE IN THE OFFENSE FOR DALLAS.
Dirk will eventually get tired and/or miss shots
and one more thing---
how about running Dirk to the ground with Pick & roll like dallas does to TD--and make him play Defense????
but commit already and DON'T CHANGE IT UP---when things aren't going your way.
Comments?

This. Becoming predictable is the worse thing you can do.
gotta disagree...
this is what the spurs have ALWAYS done---and they have NEVER stopped him...
his comfort zone is playing hard for 12-25 minutes---then when the pussy spurs defense loses their commitment---by switching defenses---he COASTS home and passes to others who are waiting with OPEN jumpers....
that is why the spurs should commit---let him know he will have to do it ALL by himself---no rest---no let-up---make him play HARD for 40 plus minutes---
I guarantee he won't be so fresh to make every shot---especially in the 4th quarter...
also---when dirk was hot--the spurs were either ahead or down by one or two---
it was when we doubled him--that dallas got more motivated and began pulling away---while dirk rested...
COMMIT
why don't give him different looks, similar to what Detroit did in 2005 with TD. Have, Dice, TD and RJ and/or Bogans (depending on whose on the floor) take turns.
