So step into Spurs general manger R.C. Buford’s shoes. Does it make sense to pay nearly $50 million to three men who’ll then be a combined 98 years old?

What it comes down to is that if Buford keeps Parker on the roster next season, he’ll go into following offseason facing two options:

1. Pay Parker market value, which could be very steep, and build around an aging and expensive trio.

2. Watch Parker sign elsewhere and get nothing in return.

Isn’t the more sensible option – the option that allows the Spurs to continue to build for the future – the one in which they get something in return for their star point guard?

He atleast backs up his thoughts with reasonable arguements and didn't throw out Bosh S&T crap - like he said even if FO explores TP trades it will be very difficult to find workable deal - I wish FO was being more aggressive on ext with TP atleast to try to guage his level of committment to SA if we can afford him - most likely the FO wants one more year to evaluate Hill's potential as PG and to see TP close to 100% before making decision - most likely TP is here all of next season - interesting possiblity in article was if a FA loser was to get desperate and we know some pretty stupiud GMS out there - then maybe you offer deal you can't say no to

It is an interesting argument that the Spurs wouldn't be able to resign Tony Parker for a contract he wants when it does expire. If the Spurs let that happen then they lose their starting PG for nothing as opposed to a trade this year that could bring back some good pieces.

Also there are no other PG's on the level of Tony Parker that seem like they'd be available this summer. And there's a ton of teams out there that could use an upgrade at that position.

The aging expensive "trio" would be duncan for 1 more year and then he will retire.. that will create a big cap relief and then manu 1 year after him his contract will come off the books. its not like we will have the same big 3 locked up for 6 more years.

Bingo. I could see this going down rather quickly if Tony doesn't play for the French NT this summer.

Sign tony to a similar extension as Manu (closer to 15 mil per though), and I'll be happy. , I still think we overpaid Manu, that may come back to haunt us... but losing him was out of the question, so props on doing what had to be done. Hopefully they'll have the same mentality with Parker, and hopefully Parker can have a great comeback year (or at least partial year lol) as Ginobili did
