With the San Antonio Spurs 2009-2010 season over and all the Tony Parker trade rumors, Tiago Splitter talk, etc., here is some great news we here at Project Spurs overlooked but deserves its proper recognition. Our bad!
Alonzo Gee was named the 2010 NBDL Rookie of the Year.
"Austin Toros guard Alonzo Gee, who ranked in the top 10 in the NBA D-League in regular season scoring, has been selected by the League’s 16 coaches as the NBA Development League’s 2009-10 Rookie of the Year. Gee will be presented with the award by Chris Alpert, Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the NBA D-League . . ."
Here is what Toros' coach, Quin Snyder had to say on Gee winning this award:
“On behalf of the Toros and Spurs organizations, we are pleased and excited to have been able to share in Alonzo’s success this year. It has been a privilege to coach him,” said Quin Snyder, Toros head coach. “He has been relentless in his commitment to develop as a basketball player and most importantly, Alonzo is a great teammate. He is a young man that has had a positive impact on all of us, and we congratulate him on the award.”
Congratulations Alonzo!
This season, Gee was called-up to the Washington Wizards where he averaged 7.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 16.5 minutes.
The Spurs have a team option to pick up his final contract year which is set to pay him $762, 195.00. Gee was signed by the Spurs late in the 2009-2010 NBA season.

Do you guys think he get more playing time next season?
FYI, the ROY award was announced on April 17th, the blog you linked just got around to talking about it now.
As to next year, the Spurs spent a fair amount of money to get Gee away from the Wizards and ensure that they have him for training camp. So they like him enough to spend some money:

This is a guy that definitely needs to find a way to squeeze some time in with Chip (just got to get in when TP and Blair are on vacation) If he can develop a 3pt shot then he can be a great contributor off the bench as he goes to the basket very hard and rebounds well - though only 6'6 he is 230lbs and has 6'10 wingspan allowing him to play bigger - though he should be better on defense than he is - biggest weakness is outside shooting and he will struggle to put ball on floor against better defenders
Gee will make Hairston expendable.
Thanks Mel-13
gee v hairston let the fly
If Gee is better than Hairston we still get a bargain. I think this will be a great training camp. Damn this summer is going to be long.![]()
@Mel_13
FYI We actually wrote this when the news came out, but we were busy with other timely Spurs (playoffs) content and decided we'd push it out if we needed it for a slow offseason day so the writers time didn't go to waste. Wonder if I should be surprised to see more criticism of my site here. But whatever, bring it on, I didn't start Project Spurs five years ago to be popular or liked.
Gee will certainly make things interesting. He's still raw but you can't ignore talent like that. Hopefully we'll see more of him during summerleague and training camp.
Someone's a little sensitive. There was no criticism of your site in my post. The OP had started a thread led "Gee named NBDL Rookie of the Year" and linked your site at the source. I merely alerted the OP to the simple fact that this was old news.
Old news or not, the article is new. It posted today.
Whatever. Read my one sentence that referred to your site. It is true and you have confirmed that it is true.
This guy probably won't even make the roster next season. To the guy crying about the criticism being given, if you don't like it then don't come here.
If it's not about popularity, then why have this posted here? Ask for it to get taken down.
I'm sure the fans will be begging to have their articles to be put back on.![]()
500k says he makes it to summer league
signin him to mini contract is better then resignin teh veterans on the team aka bogans and mason

Well, 3 of those guys are still in the league. Will Bynum is doing ok, sounds like. Devin Brown has had a couple decent seasons. Louis Amundson is decent depth for the Suns. Nothing too exciting here.
@Mel: My bad. Probably overreacted a bit. Oh and nbaman is not me.
@rayray2k8: I didn't post it here, nbaman did. I never post our articles in forums because I don't want to link spam.
