The thinking in Israel at the time was that if the British were to give up control of the Suez Canal, it would be left in Egypt's hands, putting Cairo in a better position to exert pressure on Israel.

They are worth talking about because it displays past incidents which could cast a light on a potential motive for other su ious incidents which happened around that time. It's worth discussing, what other potential things could they have been responsible for where Americans died. They are admitting to this because they killed no Americans. I don't know if Israel attacked the Liberty or not. But this is a seperate subject that is worth discussing. Though this does crossover to the Liberty convo as it set's a precedent of behavior.
