-- Cowboys to Increase Witten's Red Zone Production --
    Wed Jun 9, 2010 --from FFMastermind.com
The Dallas Morning News reports Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught 94 passes last year for 1,030 yards and went to another Pro Bowl. But if there's a number the Cowboys want to see increase it is touchdown catches. Witten had only two in 2009. Twenty-one tight ends in the NFL had more than Witten from San Francisco's TE Vernon Davis, who had 13, to Washington's TE Todd Yoder, who had three. Red zone production has been a big part of the Cowboys' off-season emphasis. They were not as productive in the red zone as they have been in the past and some of that was because Witten was not a big part of it. In the loss at Denver, he blocked on the final two throws that went Sam Hurd's way. In 2007 Witten had seven touchdown catches. In 2004 and '05 he had six apiece. HC Wade Phillips said the approach will be a bit different in the red zone offensively this year. "I think Witten comes to mind more than anybody," Phillips said. "We had been getting it to him in the red zone and we didn't do it as quite as much as last year. We shouldn't have gotten away from that."

That was definitely quite frustrating to see. Despite Austin's breakout season, Witten was the one I trusted the most and he never got enough looks in the redzone.

Its funny how much things change within a year. Last year, we were all worried about who was going to pick up the slack with TO leaving. If you would of told me before the season that Witten would only get 2 TD catches, then I would've thought we would be in deep trouble instead of 11-5.

Now with Austin's emergence and the drafting of Dez, our receiving corps is stacked!

Not sure why we got away from getting him the ball in the red zone in the first place. Glad we're changing that up a bit.

I think Romo was trying too hard to look other ways since he was criticized so heavily 2 years ago for only throwing Wittens way.

Is there any team that talks more about what they're going to do instead of just doing it than the Cowboys? I swear - make it Romo Friendly, getting Roy W and Romo in synch, Getting Ogletree more involved, getting more interceptions, now getting Witten more TDs. It's frustrating, it's like they issue a press release for the most mundane . Just formulate a plan and execute it, don't talk about it.

Dude..it's hard to execute anything before training camp even starts. Meanwhile, they're the most media covered team in the league..you're going to hear all kinds of things about them before the season. Aren't you a fan? Why does it bug you to hear news about them?
