    According to Broussard's Twitter...

@Mini_56 Bulls could trade Deng. EC Exec told me they offered Deng to Dallas for Erick Dampier (nonguaranteed contract). Dallas said NO!

    Dallas can get more
from Dampier's contract. I expect more attractive offers to come when the free agency period arrives. Dallas is adding two stars to its roster this summer... Roddy & Player X

adding Deng would have been nice tbh. Not great, a bit redundant, but at least there's more size and athleticism on the roster with him.

Cuban thinks he's getting a big name FA. I really fear that he'll fail and the DUST chip that we've been ing our pants about for a year now will go to waste.

If Jefferson is ever on the table for real, Cuban cannot afford to let that deal go.

damn, deng is only 25? I thought he was around jho/caron's age.

if DUST can't get a big name FA or Al Jefferson, turning down this deal will be horrible.

Yeah, Mavs aren't going to use Dampier to give the Bulls enough cap space for 2 max FAs with 8-10M left over.

You idiot, Dallas would be clear favorites to win it all, and probly even repeat if they added Deng to their roster, but they passed on it!!

Dirks not going anywhere. He's our top priority, but there's only a very remote possiblity of him leaving Dallas... according to just about everyone who covers Dirk's free agency.

Deng would be nice, but Rudy Gay would be better. Dallas has a lot of confidence in Dampier's contract, and I don't think they would reject that deal unless they knew for certain that they could do better.

If they got Deng, Mavs would need to trade Caron or Marion otherwise there would be a huge logjam at SF. imo Caron>Deng

Dallas was right to not agree to that. Luol Deng doesn't really help them that much. And why would any team help the Bulls guarantee enough cap space for two max free agents?

so what are they going to do? add shaq and rudy gay? basically dampier is a salary dump. his non guaranteed contract basically lets the mavs have 10 million in cap room but only way of acquiring a player is through sign and trade or trade

You mother ers are dumb if you think that Dallas is going to trade me, the best center in the NBA, for some African guy nobody's ever heard of.

If I was Dallas i'd be insulted with such a joke of an offer! Does Chicago know that April Fools was months ago?

Trade aside, if health isn't an issue, I'd take Deng over Butler.

Dampier can offer anywhere from $10-16 million in cap relief (his contract must be within 125% of whatever player being traded for). Dallas then can offer Butler (guaranteed but expiring as well) for more salary dump or add multiple future first rounders, Dominique Jones, a reliable back up PG in Barea, and maybe even Roddy Beaubois if it's for the right player (as in a #1 option). I think Dallas is going to be a significantly better team next season.

At $1.8 million per year he's pretty reliable. I know a lot of people hated him last year because he was a progress stopper for Beaubois, but I think most people consider him as a serviceable/reliable back up. Particularly at his price.

tbh, if on the right team Barea is a reliable backup PG. The problem was that, Beaubois was already a lot better and has a ton of potential so we just didn't want to see him in the game.

As an occasional change of pace guy, he's okay. A very occasional change of pace guy. There are times where his offense can catch the opponent off-guard and in spurts Barea is effective. I was a big Barea fan in the early part of the 08-09 season for that very reason. Carlisle used him in spurts, for the most part he didn't overuse him, and overall Barea looked decent. At some point that season he started overdoing it and I soured on Barea quickly.

The problem is when you overexpose him like Carlisle did then and all of last season. A 5-9 shooting guard with T-Rex arms can't be counted on to give the team regular contributions every night at both ends of the court. JJ Barea has no business playing a backup role to Kidd next season. If he's not the 10th man or lower on the bench, the Mavericks have serious issues next season.

If Carlisle uses Barea next season similar to how Doc Rivers used Nate Robinson (play him when he's hot, leave him on the bench for all eternity when he isn't) then I don't mind Barea on this team. If Carlisle is giving Barea regular minutes that could go to Beaubois or Jones next season, then Carlisle needs to be fired.
