http://twitter.com/SpearsNBAYahooSpearsNBAYahoo Wolves to trade Jefferson to Jazz for future 1st rd pick, 1st rd pick from Mem in Brewer trade and a trade exception, Y! Sports has learned.
well the good new is you can still waive dampier
They're not going to use the Dust chip. In terms of a talent upgrade and filling a major weakness (efficient low-post scoring), they can't realistically do better than Al Jefferson. If paying $14 million a year for a third big was too steep for Cuban, so is anything else that might realistically crop up. Without taking into account the financial impact of adding Jefferson's salary, swapping Dampier for him is a huge win, talent-wise. The whole purpose of the "Dust Chip" was to get a major upgrade in talent. This was a very good opportunity and they passed on it.
Hornets will not trade Chris Paul.
It's funny because Jefferson would probably better the Mavs' chances against the Lakers than CP3 would anyways.
Yep. CP3 is great, but the Lakers won back to back les with Fisher/Farmar and the Celtics won with the 2008 version of Rajon Rondo. If you want to beat the Lakers, you have to be able to match up with the length of their frontline, and Jefferson would've given the Mavs a fighting chance.
We should probably start calling it the "Dump Chip."
Out of all the years Cuban decides to cheap out now?
If the Mavs don't take on any additional salary besides the MLE, then they'll be under the cap next summer. Jefferson would've changed that. If Cuban wasn't willing to wreck that flexibility for Jefferson, then he won't for Iggy/Brand.
I guess it's not as frustrating since the Suns weren't so close, but I'm plenty pissed the Suns had a $16 million trade exception that they decided to use on Hedo Turkoglu and Josh Childress rather than go after big Al. A healthy big Al is virtually no downgrade to Amare at all.
I was too depressed about this to eat Long John Silver's off a hooker's ass like I always do on Tuesday Mornings.
Jazz are gonna be tough with Deron Williams and Al Jefferson this year, that fits their system well.
Al has knee issues, isn't athletic, isn't a defender and hasn't looked like "Al" in two seasons.
Good get for the Jazz, but the Suns weren't giving up two 1sts to net him, and I'm glad of this.
Yeah this is a great move for Utah. Too bad they decided to waste NY's pick on a useless honky over Xavier Henry () or they might actually be good.
Hayward has potential, but I agree. Henry was the smart choice.
Try one season. He had an ACL replacement surgery, it might take to time to return to form but ACL replacement has a high success rate. The Suns training staff got Grant Hill healthy and had Shaq in shape while he was here, getting Al Jefferson healthy and toned up wouldn't be half as hard as that.
3 years of big Al >>>>>>>>>>>>> 4 years of Turkoglu
He's still not an athlete, and there's still the issue of Minnesota wanting some 1st-round compensation. Best, I figure, the Suns were willing to include was Clark. Getting a Memphis Grizzlies first is worth more than that.
I'll never figure out what the Cuban and Donnie want to do with this team. It feels like they don't want to get young except with Roddy, but we had a chance to get a 25 year old stud with a low post presence that the Mavs have never had. So far we've talked about getting old shaq, old bell, old haslem, and some other old people.
They wont get Paul, so I just don't see how they could of passed on Al. Everyone always talks about how its nice to have a gm who spends A LOT of money, but the problem with Cuban is he dosen't know what the hes doing when it comes to signing people, etc..
That also falls on the fail gm we have in Donnie, wanting to sign these players for 6+ years when they are already past their prime. They are mind ing me right now, I just don't see what direction they are trying to go in anymore![]()
I know the Mavs have done some strange things in the past, but at least some of them were justifiable, such as Kobe for Dirk, or as mono constantly claims but hasn't yet provided proof (not saying its not true, just that I've never seen it before), Kaman/Davis for Kidd.
But this... I just don't understand what the justification is for it. Money? They are already over the cap as is, and as you said, the purpose of DUST was to provide an upgrade in talent, not an upgrade in talent AND money. Impossible. Just doesnt make sense.
Hopefully they have something else that they are onto that they just havent released any information about, because even the biggest of morons couldnt have let a trade like that get away without some sort of other reasonable plan in place. I just have a hard time believing that they are that dumb. Hopefully they prove me right... but my hopes aren't very high at this point...
