are they ever able to fix his ability to move the lips? or is his mouth supposed to remain like that forever?
According to the article he may regain up to 90% of normal facial function ... but this is major leading edge surgery. No doubt there is a lot of nerve regeneration that has to happen and that's never a sure thing.
This was his life before the surgery:
Before the surgery, Oscar, who is reportedly a farmer, had been unable to swallow, speak, eat or breathe properly. Nine attempts to rebuild his face had failed and he spent five years with a gaping hole where his mouth and nose should have been.So even the current state represents a huge improvement.
Jesus... ok, that kind of puts things into perspective. Though its easy to see how this kind of surgical procedure is still in its infancy stages. I mean, I'm sure in a couple of decades near perfect face transplants are going to be a norm.
he's lookin' good for a guy that just had a face transplant.
Yeah, this is some pretty amazing stuff if you read all that he had replaced. I think I read somewhere that he will end up looking normal after a while. I think there are baloons under his skin that they are gradually deflating to let the skin heal better or something like that, thats supposedly why his jaw area looks so messed up.
Still, not bad at all for a guy that practically had no face at all before hand.
crazy to go through all that. I'd say the surgery and get me one of those king of jerusalem masks. imagine wearing that on the streets.

That is the way I'd go.
2010 and Just now learning how to fix a persons face?.... but hey...... we do have highly advanced robots looking for roach eggs on mars so it's all good!.
If Yes and Rush had been in charge of the future, we would be so much farther right now.
He should ask this lady for the name of her cosmetic surgeon(s)
