So, while I admit that it could happen (a lot of things could happen). I think that when you are trying to garner support for something and go directly to lunatic fringe mode, then it hurts your cause. I mean WTF this is ridiculous, and instead of bringing people to the table, it turns off rational minds even in the event that the issue is a valid one. How can people (not just this case but across the spectrum of politics) think that putting your lunatic foot forward is going to gain any empathy for your cause?
