I didn't know that Mouse was former military.
1) Aliens must not be all that uber powerful if they are afraid of our nukes.
2) Aliens must be nice and compassionate if they care so much about us not blowing ourselves up.
3) Aliens just want to make sure we don't up Planet Earth before they take over.

The government always wants to spend more on military technology. If they let me know aliens were real, I'd send half my check in taxes every time to pay for that and not have a problem.
My take: working in high security areas with possible large amounts of stress causes people to function irrationally.
