According to Phil Jackson, "It’s always a benefit to have leaders like Kobe and Derek (Fisher) on the team."
While Kobe is the best player on the Lakers, IMO, it's pretty clear that Fisher is the leader of this team.
How could someone who does this at every critical moment/camera pan not be the leader of the team?
That is his "I smell a fat, white girl" face.
This is easy.
Derek Fisher has been the heart of the Lakers team. He is the real Captain and the true voice that players value. Vocally, Fisher is that guy that everyone respects despite making less money than Luke Walton.
but Kobe is the soul, he can never motivate his guys by what comes out of his mouth, but leads by example something Fisher is not capable of doing.
Dallas & Forever!
Phil Jackson also said Jordan and Pippen were the leaders of the Bulls. While Jordan was the best player on the Bulls, IMO, it's pretty clear Pippen was the leader of that team.

These are some desperate threads.
Sasha Vujacic with the Lakers' muse Maria Sharapova
gotta go with assistant coach Brian Shaw..he's exploiting Laker match-ups and Phil's been listening...lol
Though it did indeed require Fish to admonish Bryant to calm down Game 7. Jesus Christ, he was like at warp speed, the poor schnook.
He didn't slow down. His vision just caught up with his body. By the end of that game Bryant was seeing the Celtics D in slow motion.
Though that may have just been the tread on Pierce and Garnett's tires. I swear I saw relief on their rat faces as they lumbered off the court back to their holes.
Yer right, Picc. He was still running around like a maniac. On Rondo's last triple, watch Bryant veer away from Rondo and head toward Pierce.
I cringe at the thought of Kobe not ringing that Thursday nite. He was so close and he knew it.
Kobe's shovel.
I thought it was Cobbler?![]()
No, he supported the team therefore the Championship is like half his...and for that, I give him a standing ovation![]()
Shouldn't we be comparing Derek Fisher's leadership capabilities to Pau's leadership, since he's the lakers best player?
No, while Pau is arguably more important to the Lakers than Kobe, Fisher is the LEADER. Pau is not the leader, therefore, I didn't mention him when talking about leaders of the team.
I agree Fisher may be the vocal leader but I think it's pretty safe to say Pau is the on court leader, his playmaking ability allows role players like Kobe and Artest to get easier looks at the basket.
It's pretty clear Fish is the anchor that keeps Kobe grounded. Look at how out of control Kobe was when Fisher was playing for other teams.
