cant hate on RJs at ude.
I'm not even gonna watch Bonner's...dude was getting abused in the scrimmage >:o!
RJ is saying the right things, but that is because he is smart (with regards to interviews). I still don't see the requisite focus and hustle, but it is early in pre-season. Words mean nothing. Show me on the court.
I really hope he puts the effort in this year and I hope to see a drastic mindset change during preseason.
RJ has become the laughing stock of the NBA, so he has much to prove. And so will Pop and RC if RJ lays another egg this year. We shall see...
Lol Matt...
Game day = day off... that explains a lot![]()
With expectations so damn low, if RJ can't at least meet them, wow.........I don't even want to think about that and luckily I don't think that is likely.
Yeah, I was listening to RJ and it sound like the excuse express... Let's see what he looks like on the court...
Damn, was hoping to find one thread where you didnt mention RJ...Guess I will keep looking.
lmfao it does
Do you have some kind of access to practice tape that the rest of us aren't privy to? How do you know how hard RJ is working?
Hasn't this already happened?
I'm trying really hard to see things from your perspective, but it ain't easy, dude.
I saw some video of practice and I watched the scrimmage. I don't want to hear any excuses. This is a make or break season for RJ & the Spurs and he came out lack luster again.
I watched the Heat practices, intrasquad scrimmage & game vs the Pistons. Those dudes played their asses off. They are hungry. They aren't just talking, they are doing.
RJ is talking. He is giving the interviews and saying the right things. But that means nothing. He needs to have the Heat players mindset. He is ring-less. He was the massive let down. Someone who is supposed to have a drastic mindset change is supposed to live, breathe and act like it. Not come out nonchalant. He should be flying around and putting in crazy effort. He should be pushing to win every drill, every scrimmage.
I saw the scrimmage and it was no different from the at ude he had all last year. Could it change? Sure. But it would be nice to see the intensity because unlike others, there are serious questions on whether or not RJ can "flip the switch".
No. It hasn't happened. He is talking like it's happened, but if it did, he would be playing more like Manu than the RJ of last year. I don't care if it is pre-season. If you read the post you quoted, I have been consistent. I want him to SHOW the mindset change in pre-season. I have not seen it yet. It started in training camp and in the scrimmage and he did not do it.Hasn't this already happened?
I'm trying really hard to see things from your perspective, but it ain't easy, dude.
I'm actually watching the full scrimmage right now . . . I'll get back to you . . .
OK . . . What I am noticing right off the bat in regards to the differences between the Spurs and the Heat is a big difference in culture. They are doing things differently out of necessity. It is a tortoise and hare kind of thing.
The Heat are a much younger team, but more importantly, the team leaders are relatively young. The coach is young. The at ude is more compe ive and aggressive. LeBron is very vocal and challenging. Calling out his teammates in a demonstrative manner.
The Spurs' leaders are the older guys. Obviously, the big three, but McDyess, Bonner, and Jefferson are in more of a mentoring role and are more deliberate and economical in their example because they are preparing the new guys not only physically, but intellectually.
What the Spurs are calling a scrimmage is more akin to a full court practice where specific plays are being run and the system is being absorbed. The Heat scrimmage is a lot more bravado and hustle and less mental, or instructional.
In regards to Jefferson specifically, in this context, it appears to me that he is doing what he should be doing. Knowing where he needs to be and reacting in a more fluid and aware level. I think it will be pretty obvious to most who know the game, very early in the season, that something is different about Jefferson. It won't be as obvious for others. I don't expect it to happen overnight, but I don't think it necessarily should. I think we should expect steady improvement more than a brand new person. He is still Richard Jefferson, but he will be a better Richard Jefferson. Maybe a very good Richard Jefferson.

i think rj's just tired of the bashing which would bother me too. im not defending him because he deserves the hes getting. in fact i believe if the city accepted his half ass job he wouldnt have been pushed in a sense to re-learn fundamentals.
we have to give the guy some credit, he did what we all wanted this summer and that was getting back to basics as well as getting in shape.last season i knew he was going to be slow if you saw his upper torso you could tell he let himself go. i watched the open practice and theres no doubt in my mind that we will see a more effective rj!! he runs/moves so much lighter if that makes sense, i expect to see epic dunks in the near future
