Teen Sexting? Child Porn?

I couldn't think of a better le but I saw an ad for this app on the news (WOAI) so I went online to find out exactly how it worked, because the moment I heard of it something in my head went off saying it didn't sound right.

Mobile Media Guard is an application that helps parents prevent teenage "sexting" by allowing them to monitor the photographs and videos that are taken or received on their child's cellphone. It will run on the device and will continuously sweep the phone, searching for any new media files and uploading them for viewing.

That's the part that caught my attention. If a kid can have child porn charges filled on them for sending a picture of themselves to another teen, how on earth is uploading child porn to their servers for viewing, anywhere close to legal? That's not to mention what would happen if their servers got hacked.

I'm all for things that help us as parents to keep an eye on our children, especially when it comes to privileges such as cellphones and cars, but this one seems like it might not be a great idea.

Don't buy your children web cams for their PC's.

Remove the built in web-cams that come with laptops.

Try to get a cell phone that has no camera in it, or one that has been removed.

Let your child know that you will be monitoring the monthly statement and check all the phone numbers incoming and outgoing. As long as it's just their normal friends, no problem. Any older people, they lose their cell phone. If they don't like it, no cell phone.

Problem solved.

That's what I plan to do when I have children, anyway.
