last time i checked it had to be itunes, but i could be wrong.
My stepdaughter just got an Ipod from my uncle and I was wondering if it is imperative to install Itunes. Is there any way to get around having to install it? Can I just easily transfer the MP3s we have over to her shuffle like with other MP3 players?

i think you are screwed. not sure but if it was a shuffle maybe it could be treated as a flash drive
What kind of Ipod is it?
I used to have an 80 gig classic, and I got Rockbox for it.. and I believe I didn't have to use Itunes, but I'm not too sure... you can try it at rockbox.org
there's a lot of stuff you have to do to get it in your ipod, but idk check it out.
Rockbox is like another interface you can use for your ipod, rather than the classic look it's different and you can add lots of games among other mods to it.
interesting info... have any suggestions on what you or anyone else may use other than itunes? Bought the wife an ipod for xmas but neither one of us have ever had an apple product before either.
Thank you for the link, I was hoping to not have to install itunes, especially since the ipod shuffle isn't long for this earth. We will just put it this way, she has gotten 3 mp3 players in the last 3 years. She has lost all of them (though the second one turns up about once every 2 months or so). Anyway, this is by far the smallest so I give it about a week.
Just download and use iTunes. Once you get used to it, it's really not bad. And it's the only one that is made, approved, and supported by Apple.
Sure, there are lots of other software options out there, but if you have trouble with them, you sure can't call Apple for help about it.
